Role Overview
We're looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Accountant to support veritree's Finance function as we scale our operations and build strong, reliable financial processes. This role owns the Accounts Payable workflow, supports month-end close, including sales tax filings, and provides operational and reporting support to the Controller. You'll help build a finance function that is accurate, efficient, and scalable, while gaining exposure to a wide range of accounting activities in a fast-paced and mission-driven environment.
6-Month Key Outcomes (6mKOs)
Accounts Payable Mastery: Fully learn, understand, and independently execute veritree's AP Playbook, including using Float, Beanworks, and all AP workflows. Maintain accurate vendor records and manage the AP inbox autonomously
Month-End Close Readiness: Independently prepare and reconcile all assigned balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission of schedules for review
Sales Tax Compliance: Learn and independently complete the applicable sales tax returns (e.g., GST/PST), ensuring timely filing and accurate supporting documentation
Financial Support Excellence: Demonstrate reliability and accuracy in supporting the Controller with other ad hoc requests as required: audit support, government grant claim submissions, document requests, and otherad-hoc reporting needs
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
Own the full AP lifecycle, including coding, approvals, and payment processing
Process vendor invoices, credit cards and employee expense using Float and Beanworks; maintain accurate vendor files
Monitor and respond to items in the AP inbox, escalating issues as needed
Prepare weekly AP reports and support cash flow forecasting
Month-End Close Support
Prepare and reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts.
Assist with journal entries and month-end schedules
Support completion and filing of sales tax returns
Perform first-level reviews of operating expenses and prepare variance analyses for Controller evaluation
Help refine and document month-end close processes as the Finance team evolves
Financial & Cross-Functional Support
Assist the Controller with:
Government grant claim submissions (e.g. IRAP, and SR&ED; support documentation)
Information requests from auditors, investors, and internal teams
Tracking, compiling, and delivering ad-hoc financial and operational reports
Support ongoing improvements to financial controls, documentation, and workflow efficiency
Requirements
Qualifications
1-2 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a corporate environment
Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems is a strong asset
Experience with AP automation tools (Float, Beanworks) is an advantage
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA-track is an asset)
Solid understanding of accounting principles and month-end processes
Strong Excel / Google Sheets abilities and meticulous attention to detail
Excellent communication, organization, and time management
Ability to thrive in a scaling, fast-moving environment

veritree ensures that compensation is reviewed fairly and consistently, with opportunities for salary progression tied to sustained performance. As such, the salary range for this role is $55,000 to $65,000 CAD.
This range is positioned around the 50th-75th percentile of market data we've collected, reflecting our commitment to competitive pay. Final offer amounts are based on individual experience and skillset of the candidate demonstrated during the recruitment process.
We reserve the >75th percentile of our salary ranges for internal employees who demonstrate sustained high performance and impact at veritree.
