THE ROLE: Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Bookkeeper/Corporate Accountant is directly responsible for daily and monthly functional accounting, supporting the financial reporting, performing key tasks related to fiscal period closings, and analysis of InnVest’s performance combined with ad-hoc project work. The Corporate Accountant will act as a direct accounting contact for InnVest’s managed properties.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties and responsibilities for the Corporate Accountant include, but are not limited to the following:
Month end closing procedures including but not limited to the preparation of journal entries, accruals, and bank reconciliations for multiple entities
Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts for multiple trial balances
Resolve any discrepancies between PMS system and General Ledger
Prepare month end manual payroll journal entries and reconcile all payroll related accounts on a monthly basis
Responsible for performing all daily, monthly, and other periodic accounting and financial reporting in an accurate and timely manner
Record and balance intercompany transactions
Complete regulatory filings: HST/PST/QST/WSIB etc
Fixed asset monthly roll forward and maintain fixed asset continuity schedules for managed assets
Analyze financial statements
Support annual audit and respond to auditor inquiries
Assist properties with annual budget process
Assist with system upgrades testing
Work closely with the business or other finance teams to collect data for month end close
Assist in monitoring and reviewing accounting processes and procedures and recommend changes as appropriate to improve internal controls and /or efficiencies
Assist in the preparation of other ad hoc reports as necessary
GOALS: Achieve accurate and on-time monthly close
Provide best-in-class service to support hotels and corporate office
COMPETENCIES WE ARE SEEKING: Academic/Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting, or a diploma in Accounting, or equivalent experience
Knowledge, Experience and Skills Requirements:
1-2 years previous experience in an accounting environment, with Hotel experience considered an asset
Advanced MS Excel skills
Bilingualism, French is a valuable asset
Strong attention to detail
Solid sense of ownership
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Demonstrated customer service skills, both internal and external, with the ability to resolve conflicts
Analytical
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Willingness to work overtime during reporting peak periods
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation for complex documentation
Superior time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
Mental Effort required to perform the job:
Frequent mental attentiveness and listening is required when dealing with Accounting & Finance tasks.
Frequent mental effort is required in multi-tasking, handling interruptions, and/or Employee/Manager queries, which require constant refocusing.
Frequent mental effort is required in meeting stringent deadlines.
Frequent levels of concentration required for accuracy when dealing with Accounting & Finance tasks and initiatives.
Physical Effort required to perform the job: Continuously requires manual dexterity speed and hand/eye coordination for work at a computer.
Periodic lifting of computer hardware and administrative materials such as laptops, physical files, binders, etc.
Responsibility for Resources: Responsible for work area.
Responsible for confidential Accounting & Finance documents, equipment, and protocols related to the company.
Working Conditions Continuously working at a workstation assigned by the Manager.
Continuously working in a climate-controlled office.
Frequently travels to properties, as required.
Frequent meetings (in-person, virtual) to discuss various Accounting & Finance subject matter.
Temporary hybrid working arrangement, subject to change.
Regular working hours, as required.
