In fact, in the last five years UofT entered into more than 160 license or option agreements allowing for commercial access to university intellectual property.Reporting to the Director, Innovations, the incumbent is responsible for negotiating and preparing agreements to transfer technology to industry that is subject to a sponsored research agreement or otherwise has a pre‑identified receptor for the technology. In addition to negotiation of licenses and assignments (Technology Transfer Agreements) the incumbent will advise the Partnerships Team on intellectual property terms in sponsored research agreements, monitor patent expenses and financial return from these agreements.



In coordination with the Patent Portfolio Manager, the Industry Licensing Officer will also assist in patent filing, patent assignment, and prosecution of patent applications which are often co‑managed with industry partners. The incumbent is responsible for relationship management using creative solutions to advance the University’s standing as a leading global institution in the translation of academic research into assets for industry.Your responsibilities will includeBuilding and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance including industry partners, patent and contract experts and internal stakeholdersSettling financial and business terms and other contractual requirements for technology transfer agreementsDrafting, reviewing and recommending intellectual property agreements for executionAdvising internally and externally about intellectual property policies, practices, procedures, legislation and services for the university environmentProviding detailed explanations of financial and business terms to administration and advising on the disbursement of revenues from technology transfer agreementsUpdating and maintaining database recordsHandling complex and/or sensitive informationEssential QualificationsBachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.Six to seven years relevant experience in agreement and intellectual property administration including multi‑party agreements.Demonstrated ability to draft, review and recommend intellectual property agreements.Demonstrated ability to provide advice to faculty and staff administrators with regards to agreements, policy and approach.Superior relationship management with stakeholders at all levels with a strong sense of judgement, tact and diplomacy.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Strong computer skills including ability to work with a broad range of internal and external information system tools and electronic processing systems including spreadsheets,
