Primary Purpose of Position:

VPCL is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators,



and loaders. The role requires a detail-oriented individual with a passion for ensuring equipment operates efficiently and safely.

Job Duties

- Conduct routine maintenance checks on heavy equipment and attachments to ensure operational efficiency.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and perform repairs as needed.
- Disassemble and reassemble heavy equipment components and systems.
- Perform inspections to identify worn and damaged parts that need replacement.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Utilize diagnostic software and tools to aid in troubleshooting.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Collaborate with other mechanics and team members to complete projects on time.

Position Requirements Completion of college diploma or skilled trades training required. Class 421A mechanic’s license is a must. Red Seal certification preferred. 5-10 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic with proven experience working on complex heavy equipment projects. Demonstrated knowledge of demolition equipment, including hydraulic and manual grapples, shears, and hydraulic hammers; experience with these tools is considered a strong asset. Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems. Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals,



schematics, and technical drawings. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Good communication skills and the ability to work well independently and in a team environment. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Working Conditions Ability to lift heavy equipment parts and tools. Comfortable working in various weather conditions and environments. Overtime may be required. Manual dexterity and physical ability to lift up to 50lbs. Some travel to demolition job sites may be required.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment on the floor, such as CSA approved 6” steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, coveralls etc.
