Context:
Systra Canada is currently seeking an experienced Cable Design Lead to support the planning, design, and delivery of Light Rail Transit (LRT) projects across Canada.
Missions/Main Duties:
To undertake Cable Design for an LRT Project
Profile/Skills:
- Diploma or degree in Electrical, Civil or Structural Engineering or related discipline;
- 8+ years’ experience in the design of cable containment (trays, conduits, duct banks) for rail/transit or industrial projects;
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Certified Engineering Technologist with significant experience in selecting cables and their installation and testing for rail transist systems.
- Knowledge regarding containment / route design for major infrastructure would be beneficial.
- knowledge of routing constraints, constructability, maintainability and separation requirements for power, signalling and communications cables;
- experience coordinating with civil, structural, architectural and systems teams.

Working knowledge of the following standards:
- Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC)
- CSA C22.1 – Canadian Electrical Code, Part I
- CSA C22.2 – Electrical Equipment Standards, Part II
- CAN/CSA C22.3 No. 7 – Underground Systems

- Cable temperature ratings
- Ampacity calculations and derating
- Conductor sizing (AWG)
- Wet-rated and sunlight-resistant cable requirements
- Pull box spacing and conduit fill limits
- Separation requirements for different cable types

Conduit, Raceway & Cable Tray Installation Standards:
- NECA 1 – Good Workmanship in Electrical Construction
- NECA 101 – Installing Steel Conduits
- NECA/NEMA 105 – Installing Metal Cable Tray Systems
- NECA 111 – Installing Non‑Metallic Raceways
- NEMA VE 1 – Metal Cable Tray Systems
