OptimumCare Staffing is currently hiring experienced CHNs only for contract positions in remote and isolated communities across Nunavut.
We are looking for nurses who have previous experience in:
✅ Nunavut
✅ Northern Ontario
✅ Northern Manitoba
✅ Remote and isolated Indigenous communities
Please note: These contracts require nurses who have demonstrated experience working independently in remote settings. CHNs without isolated community experience may not be considered.

CHN Role & Responsibilities in Nunavut:
Working as a CHN in Nunavut requires advanced assessment skills, robust clinical judgment, and the ability to practice independently in communities where there may be no physician immediately available.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform independent nursing assessments, triage, and clinical decision-making
- Assess, diagnose, and manage common illnesses and injuries within CHN scope of practice
- Provide emergency care and stabilization until medical evacuation or physician support is available
- Manage urgent and complex health situations independently in isolated communities
- Conduct physical assessments and develop treatment plans
- Prescribe and administer medications according to approved protocols
- Manage chronic diseases including diabetes, hypertension, respiratory conditions, and cardiac conditions
- Provide wound care, infection management, and follow-up care
- Assess and treat minor injuries, fractures, burns, and acute illnesses
- Provide maternal and newborn care, including prenatal and postpartum assessments
- Support immunization programs and public health initiatives
- Conduct communicable disease assessment, reporting, and outbreak management
- Provide mental health assessments, crisis intervention, and addictions support
- Deliver health education and prevention programs
- Work collaboratively with community members, Indigenous organizations, and healthcare teams
- Maintain accurate documentation and clinical records
- Participate in emergency response and after-hours on-call duties
Requirements:
✔ Active RN license in Canada
✔ Current CHN certification/experience
✔ Recent experience working in remote or isolated communities
✔ Strong independent practice skills
✔ Ability to work in challenging northern environments
✔ Current CPR/BLS and required certifications
