GIS Analyst

The Place:

The woodlands division at Aspen Planers Ltd., in Merritt BC, is currently accepting resumes for a GIS Analyst.

The Job:

Aspen Planers Ltd. (Aspen) is seeking a dynamic, experienced, self-starting, team-orientated individual to serve as a GIS Ana lyst.

This is a permanent, full-time position working under the supervision of the company’s Planning Manager. You will be responsible for the managemen t of all GIS and associated programs related to the managed licences held by Aspen Planers. These Programs and activities include the following: Mapping related to Site Plans, Cutting and Road Permit applications , Reforestation, Site Preparation , Stocking Surveys and Cone and Seed Inventories, among others. In addition, data base management (Phoenix) including the BC government submissions of all activities is a critical component of this position.





You will work in concert with other employees in the planning, operations and silviculture departments. The geographic forest lands held under management of this position include both the Merritt and Lillooet Timber Supply areas and portions of the Kamloops and Fraser Timber Supply areas.

Qualifications:

- Post-secondary education with a degree or diploma in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of directly related experience (ideally BC forestry).
- Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS tools and integration with Python for efficiency and repeatability
- Excellent problem solving and analytical abilities (analytics using math/basic statistics will be required).
- Broad understanding and implementation of land management concepts and practices.
- A professional, friendly and courteous manner (service & team-oriented).

In addition, the ideal candidate will have the following:

- Experience using ArcGIS Server and web mapping tools
- Problem solving skills, initiative, and intuitive ability.
- Strong organisational skills and technical writing skills.
- Self-direction , flexibility and an ability to work under limited direct supervision.
- Valuable technical understanding of databases and Microsoft Office TM applications.
