ROLE
The Labourer is responsible for performing general construction activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Comply with SMJV and client and OH&S; safety practices and procedures
- Assist tradesmen in completing daily tasks
- Gathering tools and materials as requested by foreperson/journeyman
- Assist with loading and unloading of materials
- Assisting crew with structural steel and piping installation
- General labour duties as requested by foreperson
- Operate hand and power tools
- Daily work area clean up
- Attend daily safety/toolbox meetings
- Complete daily Field Level Hazard Assessments
- Manual material handling.
- Clean and prepare sites.
- Unload and set up traffic controls and safety equipment.
- Perform spotting for various types of equipment as well as overhead powerlines.
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Various safety tickets/certificates as required depending on project.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
Experience
- Previous work experience in the facility and/or pipeline construction industry would be an asset.
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of facilities and/or pipeline construction industry is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures.
- Knowledge of handling hazardous materials and industry waste.
- Valuable vision and hand-eye coordination.
- Physically able to lift and handle heavy objects.
- Manual dexterity.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is based at our Spruce Grove fabrication shop. Must be able to work 5 – 6 days/week, 10 hours/day.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Labourer reports to the Shop Supervisor.
