The Fisheries Monitoring Technician (FMT) supports KCFN's fisheries monitoring programs through the collection of recreational and Food, Social and Ceremonial (FSC) fisheries data and biological samples within Area 26. Working alongside KCFN and Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) staff, this position helps collect high quality fisheries data that supports conservation, sustainable fisheries management, and stewardship initiatives. The successful candidate will receive hands-on training from DFO staff before independently conducting monitoring activities throughout the recreational fishing season.

Duties/Tasks/Responsibilities:

- Conduct interviews with anglers, fishing guides, and FSC harvesters to collect fisheries information
- Collect biological samples from Chinook, Coho, Halibut, and other species in accordance with established sampling protocols
- Record, organize, and maintain accurate field data, biological samples, and monitoring records
- Assist with data validation, quality assurance, and sample submission to DFO
- Support fisheries monitoring activities, including the Salmon Head Recovery Program and other stewardship initiatives
- Work collaboratively with KCFN and DFO staff while following established monitoring procedures
- Maintain monitoring equipment and sampling supplies and communicate inventory needs
- Follow all health and safety procedures and perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

- Diploma or coursework in Fisheries, Natural Resource Management, Biology,



Environmental Science, or a related field is an asset, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience conducting fieldwork, fisheries monitoring, environmental monitoring, or biological sampling is an asset
- Robust attention to detail and commitment to accurate data collection
- Ability to work independently and follow detailed sampling protocols
- Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills
- Basic computer skills for data entry and record management
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, during the monitoring season
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in marine environments and varying weather conditions
