Overview

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides comprehensive primary healthcare services to patients of all ages at River Cree Medical Clinic. Working within an interdisciplinary team, the NP assesses, diagnoses, treats, and manages acute and chronic health conditions while supporting health promotion and disease prevention. This role is integral to delivering culturally safe, patient-centred care that respects Indigenous values, traditions, and wellness practices. The NP may manage an independent patient panel, provide continuity of care, and participate in innovative virtual care delivery in partnership with Cleveland Clinic.

*Please note that this position has an anticipated start date of mid-October 2026.*

Responsibilities

- Conduct comprehensive health assessments including patient history, physical exams, and diagnostic testing
- Diagnose, treat, and manage acute illnesses, chronic diseases, and complex health conditions
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic imaging investigations
- Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions within scope of practice
- Provide patient and family education on prevention, lifestyle, and health maintenance
- Perform minor procedures such as wound care, suturing, and joint injections
- Manage chronic disease programs (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, mental health)
- Support maternal and child health services including prenatal care, well-baby visits, and immunizations
- Maintain accurate and confidential electronic medical records
- Participate in community outreach,



wellness initiatives, and health promotion activities
- Foster a trauma-informed, culturally safe environment that respects Indigenous healing practices

Requirements

- Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
- Master’s degree in Nursing (NP stream) or equivalent graduate degree
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Authorized for independent NP practice in Alberta
- Experience in primary care, family practice, or community health (acute care considered an asset)
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and documentation abilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated ability to provide culturally safe care to Indigenous patients and communities
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems is an asset
- Knowledge of Indigenous health, social determinants of health, and trauma-informed care is preferred

Salary will be based on skills and experience; a comprehensive benefits package will be provided upon employment, including extended health, dental, vision coverage, and employer-matched pension or RRSP contributions. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.

- On-site clinical setting
- Regular weekday hours with occasional evenings or weekends based on community needs
- Collaborative team setting with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals
