Position Summary
The Hospitality Manager is responsible for creating, leading, and sustaining a culture of refined hospitality throughout our small retirement residence in Ottawa's West End. This role ensures elevated service standards, exceptional product quality, and an atmosphere that reflects warmth, comfort, and boutique-level sophistication.
This leader oversees not only how service is delivered, but the entire resident experience — including food quality, presentation, ambiance, cleanliness, décor, and special events. The Hospitality Manager is accountable for ensuring that every detail contributes to a welcoming, high-quality living environment for residents and their families.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and support Culinary, Dining, and Concierge teams
- Establish clear service standards and hold teams accountable for excellence
- Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management
- Inspire a culture that consistently exceeds expectations
Culinary Experience & Resident Satisfaction
- Support the culinary team in developing appealing, home-cooked style menus that reflect comfort, quality, and resident preferences and/or resident restrictions.
- Manage inventory and assist with ordering to ensure efficiency and cost control
- Ensure resident satisfaction not only with service delivery, but also with food quality, presentation, and overall dining experience
- Ensure OPH safety protocols are being followed at all times
- Monitor meal presentation, portioning, flavor profiles, dietary restrictions, and dining ambiance within two small dining rooms.
- Gather and respond to resident feedback to continuously enhance offerings
- Occassional cooking and filling in as required.
Customer Service & Hospitality Training
- Develop and deliver ongoing hospitality and customer service training for all staff
- Establish boutique hotel-style service standards and behavioral expectations
- Coach leaders and frontline staff on communication, professionalism, and resident engagement
- Implement solid service recovery practices to ensure concerns are resolved promptly and effectively
- Work along side the team by occassionally serve lunch.
Building Atmosphere & Presentation
- Ensure overall building cleanliness and presentation meet elevated standards
- Oversee the full sensory experience of the residence, including sights, sounds, and smells
- Maintain an environment that feels welcoming, calm, refined, and comfortable
- Ensure décor, displays, and seasonal presentations reflect boutique hotel-quality standards
Events & Themed Experiences
- Plan and host holiday meals and themed dining events in collaboration with the Activities Department
- Elevate special events through thoughtful menus, décor, ambiance, and coordinated service
- Ensure all celebrations feel polished, warm, and memorable
Operational Oversight
- Conduct regular quality audits across departments
- Support budget management and responsible resource allocation
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in hospitality, hotel management, or senior living
- Proven experience overseeing multiple service departments
- Strong background in food service and dining experience management
- Demonstrated ability to elevate service culture and physical environment standards
- Exceptional leadership, organizational, and coaching skills
- High emotional intelligence and outstanding communication abilities
- Passion for creating meaningful experiences for seniors and their families
Education in Hospitality Management, Culinary Management, Business, or a related field is considered an asset.
