We are seeking energetic, enthusiastic individuals to teach, encourage, and lead fun, engaging, and secure volleyball sessions for youth ages 8–12 in the High Park area (Bloor and Runnymede).
About the Program
This evening program is designed to provide a safe, supportive, and positive recreational environment. Lessons focus on introductory volleyball skills—including passing, setting, serving, and basic court positioning—blended with fun team-building drills and recreational match-play. The program is geared towards giving children a chance to stay active, build confidence, socialize, and learn the fundamentals of volleyball in a friendly setting. Advanced coaching certifications (e.g., NCCP) are welcome but not strictly required.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Instruction & Leadership: Lead and facilitate youth-focused volleyball drills, skill-building exercises, and friendly, age-appropriate match-play.
- Activity Planning: Organize and execute engaging weekly lesson plans suitable for beginner to intermediate players aged 8–12.
- Supervision & Safety: Ensure active supervision of all participants, enforcing safe play and maintaining an inclusive, respectful environment.
- Equipment & Facility:
Assist with the setup, takedown, and safety checks of equipment (e.g., volleyball nets, balls, and court lines).
- Communication: Maintain positive, professional relationships with participants, parents, and fellow staff.
- First Aid: Respond effectively to minor injuries or incidents, documenting them as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Experience: Prior experience working with children (ages 8–12) in a camp, recreational, school, or sports setting is required.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of volleyball rules, basic mechanics (bump, set, serve), and an ability to teach fundamentals through fun drills.
- Certifications (Required): Standard First Aid & CPR Level C (or equivalent). Volleyball coaching certifications (e.g., NCCP) are an asset.
- Availability: Must be available for weekday evening shifts.
- Clearance: A Police Information Check (PIC) with Vulnerable Sector Screening will be required.
Pay Rate and Schedule
- Pay Rate: $18.00 – $22.00 per hour (commensurate with experience and coaching qualifications).
- Schedule: Contract position with hours based on program registration. Sessions are scheduled on Wednesday evenings (e.g., 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM).
- Location: High Park area (James Culnan Catholic School)
Pay: $17.60-$25.00 per hour
