**Site Safety Lead - Shipyard Construction**

**North Vancouver, BC | Full-Time | Day Shift**

**Lead Safety on One of Canada's Most Significant Shipbuilding Projects**

We are seeking an experienced **Site Safety Lead** to oversee environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs on a large-scale shipyard construction project in North Vancouver.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for maintaining a strong safety culture across a workforce of more than 100 employees while supporting the construction of high-profile marine vessels, including military and scientific ships.

Reporting to site leadership, you will manage the Site Safety Plan, supervise Site Safety Technicians, support incident investigations, and work closely with project leaders, supervisors, and crews to ensure safe execution of complex construction activities in a dynamic industrial workplace.

**What You'll Do**

**Safety Leadership & Program Management**

+ Lead and administer the Site Safety Plan for a large, multi-vessel shipyard construction project.
+ Supervise and mentor Site Safety Technicians, providing daily direction, support, and oversight.
+ Partner with project leadership, superintendents, forepersons, and crews to integrate safety into daily operations.
+ Represent the safety function during customer and stakeholder meetings as required.
+ Communicate safety trends, findings, and performance metrics to site leadership and project teams.

**Field Safety & Compliance**

+ Participate in daily toolbox talks and reinforce key safety messages.
+ Review and monitor Job Safety Plans (JSPs) for high-risk work activities.
+ Conduct daily safety observations, step card reviews, and crew engagement activities.
+ Complete and submit Valuable Catch and Near Hit reports to support proactive hazard identification.
+ Monitor machine tool operations and guarding requirements to ensure compliance.
+ Support emergency response planning, drills, and site readiness initiatives.

**Incident Investigation & Reporting**

+ Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses.
+ Support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation with the Area EHS Manager.
+ Maintain accurate EHS records, inspection documentation, and training records.
+ Prepare weekly outage and safety performance reports.
+ Facilitate daily safety closeout meetings with site leadership and safety personnel.

**Training & Continuous Improvement**

+ Deliver safety presentations, orientations, and training sessions to diverse audiences.
+ Promote employee engagement through coaching, mentoring, and safety leadership.
+ Complete Certified Safe Leader training within three months of hire.
+ Complete facilitator certification training and apply facilitation techniques in meetings and training sessions.

**Required Qualifications**

+ NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) certification.
+ Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 3 certification.
+ Ability to meet project security clearance requirements, including permanent residency or citizenship requirements where applicable.
+ Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
+ Experience managing safety programs for construction or industrial projects involving workforces of 100+ employees.
+ Demonstrated experience leading safety meetings, presentations,



and training sessions.
+ Knowledge of:
+ RCRA hazardous waste regulations
+ IATA requirements relevant to site operations
+ Machine tool operations and guarding requirements
+ Experience conducting incident investigations and supporting root cause analysis.
+ Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
+ Proven ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across multiple levels of an organization.

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ 5+ years of onsite construction safety experience.
+ Previous experience in shipyard, marine, heavy industrial, manufacturing, or large infrastructure projects.
+ Canadian citizenship.
+ Experience supporting or leading emergency response programs and drills.
+ Familiarity with complex, multi-trade construction environments.

**Work Environment**

+ Location: North Vancouver Shipyard
+ Schedule: Monday to Friday, 5:45 AM to 2:00 PM
+ Overtime: Weekend work may be required based on project needs
+ Workforce Size: Approximately 120 workers onsite
+ Environment: Active shipyard construction setting with exposure to heavy equipment, industrial operations, and marine infrastructure
+ PPE and adherence to site safety requirements are mandatory
