Title and number of the course: JLS476H1F – Linguistics Workforce

Course description: This course exposes students to research and practical approaches in the context of health professions of relevance to linguistics students, especially audiology and speech-language pathology.

Students learn about evidence-informed practice, research methodologies, practice approaches and theories in the health professions.

Students will be poised to benefit from optional service learning placements during or following the course, in research laboratories or clinical settings.

Successful completion of this course provides students with exposure and experience of use in their applications to audiology, speech-language pathology, and other clinical programs and in their future health or graduate studies.

Estimated TA Support: 1 TA @ 40 hours

An estimate of the course enrolment: 40 undergraduates

Class schedule: Thursdays 5:00pm - 8:00pm

Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2026 - December 31, 2026

Sessional Lecturers III (Long Term) - $11,228.90

Minimum Qualifications: Solid background in speech-language pathology, and mastery of the course material, including ongoing research related to the course material and clinical experience in SLP.

Previous experience as an instructor in JLS courses.

Preferred Qualifications: A Master's or PhD in a relevant field is preferred.

Previous experience working with Teaching Assistants/Graders is desirable.





Excellent teaching evaluations and relevant active research are an asset.

A brief description of the duties: The Sessional Lecturer position involves the normal duties related to the design, teaching, and timely administration of a university credit course, including but not restricted to (i) preparation and delivery of course content, (ii) development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams, (iii) calculation and submission of grades, (iv) holding regular office hours, (iv) supervision of TAs or Graders as required.

The instructor is expected to be fully available for the duration of the employment period and be in geographical proximity to the University.
