What This Position is About:

We are currently recruiting contract faculty for the Forestry Technician ¿ Adaptive Practices (Co-op) and Forestry Techniques programs, with a specialization in adaptive practices. These adaptive practices include responses to environmental, social, and economic changes within industry. In this program you will provide students with in-depth knowledge of natural resources management, traditional forestry skills (such as tree identification and forest measurement), and advanced technical competencies including GIS, GPS, sawmilling, tree propagation, and chainsawing. You will guide students through managing the forests of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence and Boreal Forest regions for resilience, incorporating safety procedures, field excursions, immersive field camps, industry standards, and career-readiness skills.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

- Delivering courses in the Forestry Technician ¿ Adaptive Practices (Co-op) program.
- Delivering and supporting the assigned curriculum to meet course learning objectives.
- Incorporating a variety of teaching and learning strategies, including hands-on field camps, outdoor excursions, and technical labs, to meet student needs.
- Assessing and monitoring student progress and achievement.
- Establishing and sustaining a positive and supportive learning setting.
- Leveraging educational technologies effectively to enhance learning, manage and publish grades, and facilitate course delivery.

What We Are Looking For:

Education Requirement: This role requires completion of a post-secondary diploma/degree in forestry, natural resource management, conservation, or a related field from an accredited institution,



or an equivalent combination of education and Ontario industry experience. Provincial professional forestry registrations (such as Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Associate Member with the Association of Ontario Professional Foresters (AOPF) is an asset.

Experience Requirement:

- Minimum of seven years of recent hands-on experience in Ontario forestry operations (e.g., forest inventory, silviculture, timber management, or harvest systems tailored to the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence and Boreal forest regions).
- Deep understanding of Boreal Fire Ecology. Firefighter with the required certifications and experience in wildland fire suppression; knowledge of the Ontario SP 100 (Basic Wildland Fire Suppression) training program is considered a special asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable provincial legislation and regulations, including the Ontario Crown Forest Sustainability Act (CFSA), the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and relevant Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) standards.
- Workplace Safety North (WSN) Professional Chainsaw Operator certificate or equivalent Ontario felling credentials; Ontario Tree Marking Certificate; Train the Trainer certification an asset.
- Technical ability to teach modern forestry software and mapping technologies used in Ontario, including ArcGIS, GPS-guided tools, and timber cruising software.
- Strong commitment to occupational health and safety standards and safe work practices in field and industrial environments under the Ontario OHSA framework.
- Standard First Aid & CPR Level C, with specialized knowledge in remote Ontario field-site emergency protocols.
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., WHMIS, Working at Heights, Ontario Chainsaw Safety).
- Experience training, mentoring, or supervising personnel in forestry or related natural resource environments within Ontario.
- Ability to deliver both classroom and hands-on field/camp instruction (including immersive outdoor environments across Ontario, such as Algonquin Park).
- Proficiency in assessing student performance and providing constructive feedback.

Communication: Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deliver and receive feedback, as well as well-developed critical thinking/problem-solving,



and organizational / time management skills are required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning as a dual professional, fostering relationships and connections while providing accessible, inclusive, superior service to students.

Computer Proficiency: You are proficient working with a variety of computer applications including Microsoft Excel, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet search, learning management systems and online learning applications. Additional computer proficiency will be relative to the knowledge required for the programs of study.

Salary Range:

As per the non full-time academic salary grid.
