Hi! I'm a woman in my late 20s with a disability, and I'm looking for someone great to join my support team. I run a wheelchair accessible travel blog and do freelance accessibility consulting, so my days are a mix of writing, content creation, meetings, dog walks, and spending time with friends and family! Travel is a big part of my work too — I'm often out of town for tourism collaborations (sometimes for a week or more) so there's a good chance you'll come along for some of those trips.

Day to day, I live independently in Whitby. I am a power wheelchair user and have Spinal Muscular Atrophy (a neuromuscular condition) so I need support with things like personal care, meal prep, errands, housework — basically, being an extra set of hands to do the things I can’t physically do on my own.

Who I'm Looking For

I’m looking for someone who genuinely likes helping people, has good energy, and is adaptable and flexible as we will always be up to something recent. It’s important that you like dogs (mine's a toy poodle and she has a whole personality of her own)! You're comfortable with the idea of travel coming up, occasionally for a week or more at a time, and working with other members of my team while we’re away.

A driver's license and comfort driving my mini-van are required. Experience as a personal support worker (PSW) helps but isn't required — I'll happily train you on everything!

Schedule

- Part-time over the summer while training

- Moving up to 30–35 hours/week starting in September
- Day shifts are typically 11–12 hours (9am–9pm), with some flexibility depending on availability
- At least two Saturdays per month required

Pay

$23.75/hour, with special rates for travel shifts

Responsibilities

- Personal care: dressing, feeding, hair/makeup, etc.
- Driving me to appointments, meetings, errands, and social outings
- Helping with work: filming content, typing, paperwork
- Housework, meal prep, and grocery shopping
- Assisting with stretches/exercises
- Dog walks and care (small toy poodle)
- Traveling with me for work trips when needed

Requirements

- Comfortable manually lifting me to and from my wheelchair (I'm about 105 lbs)
- Comfortable providing personal care for a female
- Valid driver's license, confident driving a Toyota Sienna minivan
- Legally eligible to work in Canada (this is not a cash job)

** All genders are welcome and encouraged to apply! **

How to Apply

If this sounds like your kind of job, please send me a short paragraph about yourself — who you are, your availability, and why you’re interested in working with me. That paragraph matters just as much as your resume; it's how I get a real sense of you and if we’d work well together as a team. Ask me anything — I'm an open book!

Thank you!

Pay: From $23.75 per hour

Work Location: In person
