Position Highlights
The Human Factors Engineering & Work Methods team develops andmaintainswork procedures and tool requirements for
Line and Substation electrical trade work, supports specialized safety risk assessments, and provides safety, workability,
operability, and maintainability input to asset investments. We have an opportunity for an Engineer 1 (EIT) to support a
range of multidisciplinary safety-related work that helps improve worker safety at BC Hydro.

This is a developmental engineering role intended for a recent engineering graduate or early-career engineer who is eligible
to register as an Engineer-in-Training with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). The successful candidate will be
assigned to specific client and project needs, will execute defined pieces of work under the guidance of experienced
skilled engineers and technical specialists, and will learn BC Hydro standards, policies, practices, procedures, and
engineering governance requirements.

What you'll do

- Support assigned portions of new or updated safe work procedures, work methods, tool requirements, equipment

specification sheets, and other worker-facing safety instructions for Transmission and Distribution Line and Substation work.





- Support defined tasks related to the Arc Flash Mitigation Program for substations and other electrical safety initiatives,

under direction from senior engineers and subject matter experts.

- Assist with well-defined safety risk assessment tasks by gathering information, identifying hazards and controls,

documenting assumptions, and preparing draft analysis for review.

- Review engineering drawings, field information, procedures, standards, work practices, incident learnings, and

stakeholder input to understand how work is performed and how safety controls are applied in practice.

- Participate in information exchange and field trials with trades, design, operations, safety, asset management, project

delivery, and other groups to understand practical work constraints and implementation impacts.

- Help translate technical information into clear, direct, fact-based, and usable instructions for field workers and other

audiences, with revisions based on feedback from senior reviewers and stakeholders.

- Support Safety by Design, design-for-operability, workability, and maintainability input for capital projects and operational

work by completing defined research, documentation, and follow-up actions.

- Track assigned actions, follow existing schedules and project timelines, and provide status updates so that team

deliverables are completed on schedule and meet defined requirements.

- Ask questions and suggest practical improvements to existing processes, procedures, templates, or work products within

the scope of the assigned work.

- Develop and maintain respectful peer relationships with internal stakeholders while learning BC Hydro processes,

standards, and expectations for engineering practice.

- Perform other related engineering duties and developmental assignments appropriate to an Engineer 1 (EIT) role.

What you bring

- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited Canadian-recognized university. Preferred discipline order:

mechatronics engineering, then electrical engineering, then mechanical engineering. Other closely related engineering




disciplines may be considered where the candidatedemonstratesstrong alignment with the role.

- Eligible to register, currently enrolled, or imminently eligible to apply for enrolment as an Engineer-in-Training with

Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).

- Class 5 BC Driver’sLicensein good standing, or equivalent, and ability tomaintainit as a condition of employment.

- Ability and willingness to travel occasionally within British Columbia to attend field sites, meetings, workshops, or

stakeholder engagements.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear, logical, concise, and fact-based

technical communications.

- Ability to ask questions, solicit feedback, and revise work based on input from a manager, mentor, senior engineer, or

stakeholder.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with curiosity about how work is performed in the field and how engineering

controls reduce safety risk.

- Ability to work both independently on assigned tasks and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with guidance from

experienced engineers and technical specialists.

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.

- Candidates with experience in work practices on power system, arc flash hazard analysis and general risk assessment

and safety processes is preferred.
