On-Call Handyman – Residential Rental Properties (West Edmonton)Position Overview

Mausam Estates is seeking a reliable, skilled, and customer-focused On-Call Handyman to provide maintenance and repair services for our portfolio of residential rental properties in West Edmonton. This position is ideal for an experienced individual who enjoys solving problems, takes pride in quality workmanship, and can respond promptly to maintenance requests while maintaining a high standard of tenant service.

As an On-Call Handyman, you will play a key role in preserving our properties, minimizing vacancies, and ensuring our tenants enjoy safe, clean, and well-maintained homes.

Key Responsibilities

- Respond promptly to emergency and non-emergency maintenance requests from tenants and property management.
- Diagnose and repair general residential maintenance issues including:
- Plumbing repairs (leaks, faucets, toilets, drains)
- Electrical repairs (switches, outlets, lighting fixtures)
- Drywall repairs, patching, painting, and finishing
- Door, lock, window, and hardware repairs
- Flooring, trim, and cabinetry repairs
- Fence, gate, deck, and exterior maintenance
- Install and replace appliances, fixtures, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and other household equipment.
- Perform seasonal maintenance including snow removal coordination, gutter cleaning, weatherproofing, and exterior inspections.
- Conduct move-in and move-out inspections and complete turnover repairs to prepare units for new tenants.
- Identify maintenance concerns before they become costly repairs and recommend preventative solutions.
- Coordinate with specialized contractors (HVAC, roofing, plumbing, electrical, restoration)



when work exceeds the scope of general maintenance.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, photographs, and recommendations using company maintenance software or mobile applications.
- Ensure all work complies with Alberta building codes, safety regulations, and company standards.
- Maintain professional communication with tenants, contractors, suppliers, and property management.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours emergency maintenance.

Qualifications

- Minimum 2 years of residential maintenance or handyman experience.
- Strong knowledge of residential construction and repair practices.
- Experience with:
- Basic plumbing
- Basic electrical
- Carpentry
- Drywall and painting
- Flooring repairs
- General renovations
- Ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues efficiently and independently.
- Experience using maintenance management software or mobile work-order systems is an asset.
- Ability to prioritize multiple service requests while maintaining quality workmanship.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Reliable, honest, and self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Requirements

- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driving record.




- Reliable vehicle suitable for transporting tools and materials.
- Personal hand tools required; larger equipment may be provided or reimbursed.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work.
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in all seasons.
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications

- Trade certification or apprenticeship (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or related field) is an asset.
- Experience maintaining apartment buildings, duplexes, townhomes, or single-family rental properties.
- Knowledge of Alberta Residential Tenancies practices related to maintenance responsibilities.
- First Aid and WHMIS certification are considered assets.
