About the Opportunity

We are looking for a driven and detail-oriented Plumbing Construction Estimator to join our growing team. This position is ideal for an experienced estimator who enjoys analyzing project requirements, preparing competitive bids, and contributing to the successful delivery of commercial construction projects.

The primary focus of this role will be estimating commercial plumbing and piping systems for projects ranging from $1M to $15M+. Experience with HVAC estimating is considered a robust asset.

The successful candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of plumbing systems, construction practices, and applicable building codes, along with the ability to produce accurate estimates that support profitable project execution.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Pre-Construction

- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for commercial plumbing, piping, and hydronic systems.
- Review project drawings, specifications, and tender documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Develop accurate cost estimates for materials, labour, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead costs.
- Evaluate bid documents to identify risks, omissions, and opportunities.

Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination

- Obtain and analyze pricing from suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners to ensure competitive pricing and project success.

Cost Analysis & Value Engineering

- Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality, performance, and code compliance.
- Analyze historical project data and market trends to support estimating accuracy.

Collaboration

- Work closely with project managers, engineers, designers, and general contractors during pre-construction and project handover phases.
- Assist with scope reviews, bid clarifications,



and budget discussions.

Database Management

- Maintain estimating databases, labour units, material pricing, and historical cost information.
- Ensure estimating tools and systems remain accurate and up to date.

QualificationsEducation

- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; or
- Equivalent industry experience, including Journeyperson Plumbing certification.

Experience

- Minimum 5 years of direct estimating experience within commercial plumbing construction.
- Experience estimating HVAC systems is considered an asset.
- Proven experience working on commercial construction projects.

Technical Skills

- Proficiency with estimating software such as:
- Bluebeam Revu
- Trimble Estimation / QuickPen
- Procore
- Strong understanding of:
- Alberta Building Code
- City of Calgary regulations
- CSA standards
- Commercial plumbing and mechanical systems
- Familiarity with HVAC industry standards including ASHRAE and SMACNA is beneficial.

Schedule

- Monday to Friday
- 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM or 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Occasional overtime may be required to meet project deadlines

Travel Requirements

- Valid Class 5 driver's license required
- Reliable vehicle required
- Travel to project sites throughout Southern Alberta, including:
- Calgary
- Banff
- Strathmore
- Crossfield
- High River
- Mileage reimbursement provided
- Approximately 75% travel required

Pay: $70,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
