Our client, a legacy, high-volume innovator in automotive manufacturing is seeking a collaborative and strategic Capital & Tooling Buyer to join its corporate head office team located in North York, ON. This role offers the opportunity to work from home 2 days/week following the first 6 months of full-time on-site presence.

The Job:

- Reporting to the Senior Corp Procurement Manager, the Capital & Tooling Buyer is responsible for the sourcing and management of all capital and tooling purchases, working as part of a cross-functional team with Engineering, Quality and manufacturing plants.
- The incumbent will be a major participant / leader in new business launches and continuous improvement activities related to capital and tooling.
- The main objective of the role is to negotiate the best deal possible whilst ensuring our suppliers provide quality goods.

Relationship Management:

- Work collaboratively and engage with stakeholders and suppliers regarding new projects
- Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the supply and demand of needed products and materials and advise others of any impact
- Attend meetings and update others on issues or concerns, in particular when there is a risk which could prevent the organisation meeting customer demands
- Support product change requests and review and communicate the impact on capacity plans
- Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and ensure good communications
- Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all relationships

Requirements:

- High School Diploma plus Diploma or Degree in a related field is an asset




- Proven purchasing experience preferably within the automotive industry focusing on capital and tooling function
- Able to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers
- Strong negotiation, communication, presentation, interpersonal and influencing skills
- Analytical, numerically astute with strong proven problem-solving abilities
- Robust Excel skills
- Strong technical knowledge and understanding of automotive processes, components and supply chain management
- Able to occasionally travel domestically and to the USA

Education:

- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)

Experience:
