GP Technologies is a specialized electrical power system engineering firm headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, with offices in Calgary and Vancouver.

For roughly 30 years we have delivered power system engineering to industrial and utility clients across Canada and the United States — oil & gas, petrochemical, mining, power generation, forestry, water/wastewater, and institutional. The Role

We are hiring Electrical Engineers at all levels — from new graduates and EITs through to senior engineers with 10+ years of experience. We are less interested in filling a specific box on an org chart than in finding strong engineers who want to build a career in power systems.

We are a specialist consultancy, not a large EPC. In practice that means you will be given real scope early, you will talk directly to clients, and you will work across a wider range of project types than you would in a larger organization. Our senior engineers are in the same room as our juniors, and the mentorship is direct.

Depending on your experience, you may be doing any of the following — and over time, all of it:

Early Career (0–4 years)

- Support power system studies: load flow, short circuit, coordination, arc flash, and grounding
- Produce single-lines, schematics, panel layouts, cable schedules, and other design deliverables
- Assist with equipment specifications, vendor drawing review, and bid evaluations
- Develop relay settings and protection schemes under the direction of a senior engineer
- Support site visits, testing,



and commissioning alongside our field services group
- Work toward P.Eng. registration with a defined mentorship path and APEGA competency support

Intermediate (4–10 years)

- Own discipline scope on projects, from concept through construction support
- Run studies independently and interpret results into practical design decisions
- Take the lead on protection & control design, substation design, and equipment specification
- Interface directly with clients, vendors, and other disciplines
- Contribute to proposals, estimates, and scoping
- Check and mentor junior staff

Senior (10+ years)

- Act as Lead Engineer with full responsibility for technical execution and client relationships
- Review and seal engineering deliverables to IEEE, IEC, CSA, and client standards
- Drive technical strategy on complex substation, HV, and interconnection projects
- Partner with project managers on schedule, budget, and risk
- Develop the technical capability of the group through mentorship and standards development
- Help grow the business through client relationships and proposal leadership

What We're Looking For

Required at every level:

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited program
- Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA as a P.Eng. or Member-in-Training
- Genuine interest in power systems — substations, protection & control, industrial distribution
- Clear written and verbal communication; our deliverables are read by clients, contractors, and regulators
- Sound engineering judgment and the willingness to say when something doesn't look right




- Eligibility to work in Canada and willingness to travel to client sites as required

Valued, and weighted to your experience level:

- Experience in substation design, protection & control, and industrial or utility power distribution — whether as a consultant, EPC, or owner's engineer
- Power system analysis software: ETAP, SKM, CDEGS, or similar
- Relay experience: SEL, GE Multilin, ABB, Schweitzer settings and logic
- AutoCAD, Revit, or comparable drafting environments
- EMT simulation (PSCAD) — a strong differentiator
- Familiarity with procurement, construction, and commissioning realities
- Exposure to SCADA, OT networks, or DER/renewable interconnection
- Ability to carry several projects at once in a consulting environment
