Purpose of your Position - Non Union

Classification Summary - Union

An Arborist performs specialized arboricultural work in the planting, removal and maintenance of urban trees.

Duties - Union

- Plants, prunes, tops, falls and removes trees; identifies diseased trees and performs surgery & repair (e.g. cleaning affected areas, cabling and bracing, etc).
- Performs other duties associated with the urban tree maintenance program, including stump grinding, root removal, fertilizing, etc.
- Uses and maintains specialized climbing gear consisting of harnesses and a rigging system of ropes and pulleys to climb high trees for inspection, pruning or falling.
- Operates and maintains aerial lift trucks, wood chippers, flat deck and crane trucks and a variety of hand and power tools (e.g. chain saws, power shears, drills, stump grinders, etc.).
- Ensures all safe work practices are in place for the work site (e.g. crew wearing proper fall protection gear and other personal protective equipment, work zone perimeter protection, traffic control, etc.).
- Supervise others and provide on -site crew leadership.
- Receives and responds to enquiries from staff, contractors and the public.
- Manual labour and working at heights is required.

Class 3 Driver’s Licence is preferred.

Additional Hiring Information

Testing may be required. If no fully qualified candidates apply, those not fully qualified may be considered for a training chance. Training rates will apply.

Pay Rate

$39.51 per hour plus 14% in lieu of of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits
