Therapy Assistant (Communicative Disorders Assistant)

Location: KidsInclusive sites (Hotel Dieu Hospital and/or 221 Portsmouth Ave., Kingston) and community locations throughout KFL&A;
Position Type: Temporary Part-Time (Approximately 6 Months)
Schedule: 2 Days per Week, Monday to Friday
Shift times may include: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Pay Band: Band S ($33.37 - $36.98/hour)

We are seeking a Therapy Assistant (Communicative Disorders Assistant) to join our Clinical Support Team. In this rewarding role, you will work alongside Speech-Language Pathologists and interdisciplinary professionals to help children achieve their communication goals through engaging therapy programs, group activities, parent education, and community-based services.

What You'll Do

As a Therapy Assistant (CDA), you will support the delivery of speech and language services under the supervision of a Speech-Language Pathologist by:

Clinical Support

- Implementing individualized therapy programs and activities designed to support communication goals
- Assisting with therapy sessions, assessments, and treatment preparation
- Supporting group programs by coordinating logistics, preparing materials, and co-facilitating sessions
- Assisting with parent workshops and educational programming
- Documenting client progress and communicating observations to supervising clinicians
- Providing coverage for other Therapy Assistants as needed
- Supporting interdisciplinary programming across KidsInclusive services

Administrative Support

- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and records in AlayaCare
- Protecting client confidentiality and adhering to privacy legislation and organizational policies




- Participating in team, discipline, and departmental meetings
- Assisting with quality improvement initiatives and program development
- Supporting student placements, mentoring opportunities, and shadow experiences
- Contributing to a positive, collaborative, and client-focused setting

Professional Development

- Participating in ongoing education and training
- Completing required KHSC and KidsInclusive learning modules
- Maintaining accurate records of professional development activities

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

- Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum two (2) years of experience working with children and youth with speech and language challenges
- Experience in a Children's Treatment Centre or comparable community-based pediatric setting
- Experience supporting children and youth who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems
- Strong understanding of speech and language development, including children with physical and developmental disabilities
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
- Access to a reliable personal vehicle, valid driver's licence, and automobile insurance in accordance with KHSC policy
- Current BCLS certification at the Health Care Provider level
- Proven ability to attend work regularly
- Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening

Preferred Qualifications

- Ability to speak and understand both English and French
- Continuing education related to pediatric rehabilitation or pediatric speech and language services
