Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Powder Coater to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for applying powder coatings to various metal components, ensuring high-quality finishes that meet company standards. This role requires mechanical aptitude, familiarity with manufacturing processes, and the ability to operate various tools and equipment safely and efficiently. The Powder Coater plays a vital part in delivering durable, aesthetically pleasing products to our clients.
Duties
- Prepare surfaces for coating by cleaning, sanding, or masking as needed
- Metal finishing
- Chemical washes, handling material
- Operate powder coating equipment, including spray guns and curing ovens
- Inspect powder-coated parts before, during, and after coating to ensure conformance with quality standards, customer specifications, and industry requirements.
- Perform visual inspections for defects such as orange peel, pinholes, runs, fisheyes, thin or heavy film build, and color inconsistencies.
- Measure coating thickness using appropriate gauges and record results accurately.
- Verify surface preparation processes, including cleaning, pretreatment, and masking.
- Conduct adhesion testing, cure verification, and other required quality tests.
- Identify nonconforming products, document defects, and initiate corrective actions.
- Work closely with production, maintenance,
and supervision to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence.
- Maintain inspection records, test results, and quality documentation in accordance with company procedures.
- Assist with incoming material inspections and verification of powders, substrates, and supplies.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to quality, efficiency, and waste reduction.
- Follow safety protocols related to welding, power tools, and mechanical operations
- Document work progress and report any issues or defects promptly
Experience
- Experience of powder coating processes, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders and production specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
- Physically capable of standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- WHMIS certification or willingness to obtain it.
- Forklift or overhead crane experience is considered an asset.
