Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator, the Community Outreach Technician will help develop, coordinate, deliver and evaluate a new pilot of watershed education on behalf of Conservation Halton. In addition, this role supports the coordination, delivery, and evaluation of the Outreach departments ongoing programming like From the Ground Up (FTGU) program, the Halton Children’s Water Festival (HCWF) as well as various other corporate outreach events and programs.

- Water Education Pilot
- Support the development, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of Conservation Halton’s watershed education pilot program.
- Assist in creating educational materials, presentations, and activities that build awareness of watershed health, flooding and flood mitigation, climate resilience, environmental stewardship, and the role of Conservation Authorities.
- Deliver engaging in-class, virtual, and community-based educational programming to students, educators, and members of the public.
- Collect participant feedback, track program outcomes, and provide recommendations for program improvement and future development.
- Support outreach efforts that promote watershed literacy and environmental stewardship throughout the Conservation Halton watershed.

- From the Ground Up

- Provide pre- and post-event administrative support,



including preparing school waivers, submitting locate requests, requesting certificates of insurance, maintaining participant records, entering tracking data, and filing program documentation.
- Prepare and deliver classroom presentations to students in Grades 4–12 on environmental stewardship and habitat restoration.
- Assist with loading, unloading, transportation, and organization of program equipment and materials.
- Support site preparation for field-based stewardship activities, including marking project areas, identifying invasive species, identifying potential hazards, and preparing planting stock.
- Lead and facilitate field programs by conducting site and safety orientations, demonstrating stewardship techniques, supervising student activities, and supporting invasive species removal and tree planting initiatives.
- Record program statistics, evaluate program outcomes, and ensure equipment and materials are properly cleaned, maintained, and stored.

- Outreach Events and Community Engagement

- Support the coordination, delivery, and evaluation of ongoing outreach initiatives, including the Halton Children’s Water Festival (HCWF), community stewardship events, and other corporate outreach programs.
- Represent Conservation Halton at community events, festivals, schools, and public engagement opportunities.
- Engage participants in learning about conservation, watershed health, environmental stewardship, climate change adaptation, flooding, and Conservation Halton’s programs and services.
- Assist with event logistics, educational displays, promotional materials, participant engagement activities, and program reporting.
- Perform other related duties as assigned in support of departmental objectives and community outreach initiatives.

Your Qualifications

- Keen interest in environmental conservation, watershed management, outdoor education, and community engagement.
- Post secondary education in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geography, Ecology, Forestry, Education, Outdoor Recreation, or a related field.
- Experience delivering presentations, educational programming, or public outreach activities to diverse audiences, including children, youth, and the public.
- Previous experience developing, coordinating, and evaluating educational programs, workshops, or public engagement activities for diverse audiences is an asset.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage participants in both classroom and outdoor settings.
- Experience working with children and youth in educational, recreational, volunteer, or community-based environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Google Workspace (Slides, forms, drives and Google Meet)
- Experience using social media, digital engagement tools, or online learning platforms to support outreach and educational initiatives is an asset.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks, maintain accurate records, and support program administration efficiently.
- Ability to exercise professional judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential information
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven terrain for extended periods.
- Ability to safely lift, carry,



and move materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Successful candidates are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS), to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (if over 18 years old). *Cost covered by Conservation Halton up to $30.00.
- A valid Ontario Drivers Licence, minimum Class “G”, with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract is required. *Abstract completed by Conservation Halton.
- Experience operating a truck/trailer combination is an asset, however training will be provided
- CH parks are not accessible by public transit; candidates should ensure they have reliable transportation.
