Position Overview:
We are seeking a permanent Advanced Distribution Management System Modeling Officer to join our Control Centre Technology
Systems Department.
Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with technical team members to ensure that modelling activities are properly addressed and the accuracy
and performance of the ADMS model is maintained for use in the ADMS real-time and study applications.
- Participate in the collection, compilation, and implementation of power system data required for the distribution network model
and applications in ADMS, including connectivity and impedance models of feeders, substations, switches, regulators, protective devices, capacitors, and DERs.
- Model both normal and alternate configurations of the Electric distribution system to support switching operations. Validate
and reconcile differences between GIS-as-designed, SCADA-as-operated, and ADMS-as-modeled systems.
- Perform model validation, using tools to execute power flow validation against SCADA measurements and field data. Create
and maintain data quality metrics and reports.
- Integrate future AMI data into the ADMS power flow and outage management applications.
- Assist in developing and maintaining model data standards for identified model uses, model validation,
assemblage of station
and feeder models, power flow and advanced applications tuning and model deployment to ADMS systems.
- Participate in the maintenance, system upgrades, benchmarking, and enhancements to the ADMS system and GE Source
modeler application.
- Collaborate with Application Support and Change Management (SCADA) and Data and Software Solutions sections to ensure
synergy across transmission and distribution models, data integration, applications and infrastructure.
- Provide on-going support for System Operations staff, diagnosing and creating operating guides for real-time issues related to
model inaccuracies.
- Collaborate with system operation coordinators, change management, distribution operations planning, distribution system
planning, SCADA modeling and display team, GIS support team, distribution design group and technology project delivery team regarding distribution modeling and advanced application requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve process efficiencies and actively contribute to developing and documenting new workflows.
- Assist in the training of junior engineers, technical officers, and System Operators and other external staff on ADMS
applications and modeling.
- Prepare formal reports and technical memorandums.
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a two year diploma in Electrical Technology from a recognized technical institute plus a minimum of
five years' directly related experience; OR

- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have completed Standards of Conduct training or be willing to complete it within two weeks of the start date.
- Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
- Must obtain and maintain a current Personnel Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba
Hydro policy P513.
- Familiarity with distribution modeling, CYME, power system analysis, ADMS and related technologies, outage management,
distribution planning, and geographic information systems (GIS).
- Experience with smart grid technologies and renewable energy integration.
- Knowledge of control room processes and familiarity with control room positions and their duties/responsibilities would be an
asset.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively use computer programs to perform system studies and analyze power systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a technical team environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external
stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct, schedule, and complete work with minimum supervision.
- Must possess initiative and mature judgement with the ability to make and implement sound decisions
- Ability to be tactful and diplomatic with the ability to gain the confidence of others.
Salary Range Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $43.35-$59.82 Hourly,
$83,070.78-$114,625.68 Annually.
