Assistant Brewer / Cellar Person

Position Summary The Assistant Brewer / Cellar Person supports all aspects of beer production, packaging, cellar operations, and brewery maintenance. This is a physically active, hands-on role requiring attention to detail, cleanliness, and consistency. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head Brewer and assist with brewery operations as production demands change.

Key Responsibilities

Brewing Operations

- Assist with brew day preparation and execution.
- Mill grain and prepare brewing ingredients.
- Monitor brewing processes.
- Clean and sanitize brewing equipment.
- Record production data accurately.

Cellar Operations

- Clean and sanitize fermenters, bright tanks, hoses, pumps, and fittings.
- Transfer beer between tanks.
- Monitor fermentation.
- Dry hop and add brewing ingredients as directed.
- Carbonate beer.
- Collect quality control samples.

Packaging

- Assist with keg washing and filling.
- Operate packaging equipment.
- Label and package products.
- Prepare orders for delivery and distribution.
- Maintain packaging inventory.

Quality & Safety

- Maintain high sanitation standards.
- Follow SOPs and food safety procedures.
- Report quality concerns immediately.
- Maintain brewery cleanliness.
- Follow all workplace safety procedures.

Inventory & Maintenance

- Receive raw materials.
- Organize cold storage and dry storage.
- Assist with ingredient inventory.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance.
- Assist with equipment troubleshooting.

Events & Brewery Support

- Assist with festivals, beer releases, and brewery events.




- Help transport equipment and product to off-site events when required.
- Occasionally assist in the taproom during busy periods.

Qualifications

- Brewing experience is an asset but not required.
- Mechanical aptitude is an asset.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to lift 55 lbs repeatedly.
- Comfortable working in wet, hot, and cold environments.
- Valid driver's license is an asset.
- Forklift experience is an asset (but not required).

What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in cleanliness and consistency, and wants to grow with a small craft brewery. This role offers opportunities to learn all aspects of commercial brewing while contributing to a close-knit team.

Compensation

- Hourly wage: $18.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience, brewing knowledge, and qualifications.
- Starting wage will be determined based on relevant brewing, production, manufacturing, or cellar experience.
- Wage increases will be based on performance, skill development, increased responsibilities, and contribution to brewery operations.
- Additional hours may be available during peak production periods, packaging days, and brewery events.
