Durose Manufacturing Ltd, a progressive leader in custom-fabricated steel products, is seeking an experienced Buyer/Purchaser to manage our supply chain and procurement activities for our facility in Guelph, Ontario.

In this role, you will use our ERP system to source, negotiate, and purchase raw materials (primarily steel plates, beams, and channels), heavy-duty industrial paints/coatings, custom hardware, tooling, and subcontracted industrial services.

The ideal candidate possesses strong blueprint reading skills and a solid background in a heavy manufacturing, structural steel, or industrial setting. You will work closely with our Account Managers, Estimators, Supervisors, and Engineering teams to ensure materials arrive on time, on budget, and exactly to project specifications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

- Procure Materials & Paint Consumables: Source and purchase structural steel (angles, bars, beams, plates, pipes), industrial coatings/paints, primers, solvents, blasting media, and paint shop consumables.

- Vendor Management: Maintain and build strong relationships with local and international steel mills, service centers, paint/chemical manufacturers, and industrial suppliers.

- Negotiation & Cost Control: Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and contract terms to maximize value without compromising on quality.

- Technical Review: Read and interpret bills of materials (BOMs) and technical blueprints to ensure accuracy in purchasing.

- Expediting & Tracking: Proactively track open purchase orders to prevent production or painting bottlenecks in the shop.

- Inventory Control: Monitor inventory levels of standard shop supplies, paint inventory, and raw stock to optimize cash flow and facility space.

- Create purchase orders & negotiate total cost of PO’s

Required Qualifications & Skills: - Education: Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Engineering, Supply Chain, or equivalent practical hands-on experience.



Supply Chain certification is NOT required

- Experience: 3–5 years of purchasing or procurement experience, specifically within structural steel fabrication, heavy machining, industrial painting, or a related industrial manufacturing sector.

- Software Proficiency: Experience using Global Shop Solutions or a similar manufacturing ERP/MRP software system is highly valued, along with strong MS Excel skills.

- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with steel grades, metal manufacturing processes, and industrial coating/paint specifications.

- Blueprint Literacy: Ability to read and interpret industrial fabrication drawings and bills of materials (BOMs).

- Soft Skills: Exceptional negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills; ability to thrive under tight project deadlines.
