About CARSA The Canadian Academy for Research and STEM Advancement (CARSA) is an independent, multidisciplinary organization incorporated in Ontario, Canada. CARSA advances research excellence, innovation, STEM education, professional recognition, and knowledge exchange through academic programs, public lectures, conferences, awards, fellowships, and institutional partnerships.

Position Overview

CARSA is seeking a distinguished and respected leader to serve as Chancellor (Volunteer). The Chancellor will be the ceremonial and academic head of the Academy, its principal public representative, and a leading ambassador for its mission. Working collaboratively with the President, Board of Directors, committees, and program leaders, the Chancellor will help advance CARSA’s academic standing, institutional reputation, strategic relationships, and national and international visibility.

Responsibilities

- Serve as CARSA’s ceremonial and academic head and principal public ambassador.
- Represent CARSA at conferences, public lectures, ceremonies, institutional meetings, and other important engagements.
- Provide guidance on CARSA’s academic development, research activities, conferences, fellowships, awards, innovation initiatives, and professional-recognition programs.
- Help build relationships with universities, research institutions, governments, professional associations, corporations, foundations, policymakers, and international organizations.
- Engage respected academics, researchers, professionals, public leaders, industry executives, donors, sponsors, and institutional partners.




- Strengthen CARSA’s academic, governmental, public-policy, professional, and institutional relationships.
- Support the development of strategic partnerships, sponsorships, and appropriate fundraising relationships.
- Advise the President and Board on academic direction, institutional development, public engagement, external relations, and organizational growth.
- Promote CARSA’s mission, programs, achievements, credibility, and national and international visibility.
- Perform other appropriate ceremonial, academic, ambassadorial, and advisory duties assigned by the Board.

Qualifications

- An established record of leadership and accomplishment in academia, government, public service, industry, finance, research, nonprofit leadership, or a related professional field.
- Strong professional standing and a reputation for integrity, credibility, sound judgment, and public service.
- Experience developing senior-level academic, institutional, governmental, corporate, philanthropic, or international relationships.
- Ability to represent CARSA confidently and professionally before diverse audiences and institutions.
- Demonstrated interest in research, STEM education, innovation, professional advancement,



and societal development.
- A strong professional network and the ability to introduce CARSA to potential academic partners, policymakers, sponsors, donors, and institutional collaborators.
- Excellent communication, diplomacy, relationship-building, and public-engagement skills.
- Experience serving on a board, advisory council, professional association, academic institution, public body, or nonprofit organization is an asset.
- An earned doctoral degree and appointment as a professor or senior academic leader are strongly preferred.
- A distinguished record of research, academic leadership, scholarly publication, professional recognition, or institutional service.
- Previous experience as a dean, department chair, research director, university administrator, academy leader, or equivalent senior professional leader is an asset.

Nature of the Appointment

This is an unpaid, remote, and primarily ceremonial, academic, and ambassadorial volunteer appointment. The Chancellor will not be responsible for CARSA’s routine administration or daily operations.

The Chancellor will not have authority to enter contracts, make financial commitments, appoint personnel, or otherwise legally bind CARSA unless expressly authorized in writing by the Board.
