We are seeking dedicated Child and Youth Care Counsellors who are passionate about supporting youth and making a positive difference in their lives.
Position Summary
As a Child and Youth Care Counsellor, you will provide direct care and supervision to youth living in a residential group home. You will support youth with daily routines, emotional regulation, independent living skills, recreation, community involvement, appointments, and goal achievement while maintaining a safe and structured home environment.
Successful candidates will receive comprehensive orientation and onboarding training to become familiar with Milan’s Group Home policies, procedures, documentation standards, and expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care, supervision, and support to youth in a residential setting.
- Build positive, professional, and trusting relationships with youth using a trauma-informed and youth-centred approach.
- Support youth with daily living skills, including hygiene, meal preparation, household responsibilities, school attendance, appointments, recreation, and community involvement.
- Implement individualized care plans, behaviour support strategies, and safety plans.
- Complete accurate, objective,
and timely documentation, including daily progress notes, communication logs, and incident reports.
- Administer medication in accordance with agency policies and training.
- Transport youth to appointments, school, recreational activities, and other community programs as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe living environment.
- Participate in shift handovers, staff meetings, mandatory training, and ongoing career development.
- Respond effectively to crisis-situations while following agency policies and procedures.
- Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Human Services is required (examples include Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Social Service Worker, Community Support Worker, or another related field).
- Minimum six (6) months of experience working with children, youth, or vulnerable populations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, time management, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Sound judgment, professionalism, and strong problem-solving abilities.
Assets
- Experience working in residential care, group homes, mental health, addictions, shelters, foster care, or community-based programs.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care,
behaviour management, and crisis intervention.
- Experience supporting youth with complex needs.
Employment Requirements Successful applicants must provide or obtain:
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Standard First Aid & CPR Level C.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Child Intervention Record Check.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
The following certifications are considered assets but are not required at the time of application:
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
- Medication Administration Training
- ASIST or safeTALK
- Mental Health First Aid
- Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training
Training will be provided during onboarding for Milan’s Group Home policies, documentation standards, youth support practices, and other job-specific responsibilities. Schedule & Availability
Successful candidates must be available to work a variety of shifts, including:
- Days
- Evenings
- Overnight shifts
- Weekends
- Statutory Holidays
