One of our major clients is looking for a Construction Supervisor to join their team on a long-term contract opportunity in Kitimat, BC.
The C&S; SME will:
- Act as the subject matter authority on all civil and structural construction matters within the owner’s team
- Provide technical guidance and assurance to project execution teams, contractors, and stakeholders
- Ensure construction activities are delivered in full compliance with Work Method Statements, design specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Drive best-in-class construction practices to support safe and efficient execution
The role requires a proactive, hands-on approach to issue resolution and continuous support to the owner’s team on all C&S-related; matters. Close collaboration with the EPC contractor and internal stakeholders will be critical to minimizing risk and maintaining project performance.
Key expectations include
- Rapid identification and resolution of construction issues impacting schedule
- Close coordination with the EPC contractor’s counterpart to anticipate risks and implement mitigation strategies early
- Proactive review of construction plans and methodologies to ensure robust, executable solutions prior to field implementation
- Sharing of lessons learned and best practices to continuously improve construction execution
The C&S; Construction SME will play a key role in influencing project outcomes by ensuring alignment between engineering intent and field execution. Through strong leadership, technical expertise, and collaboration, the role will help drive delivery excellence across all civil and structural works The C&S; Construction SME will support, but is not limited to, the following activities:
- Participate in constructability reviews and workshops and safety reviews to ensure designs and work method statements are optimized for safe, efficient, and practical construction execution
- Review Work method Statements, Construction Work Packages (CWPs), Installation Work Packages (IWPs) to confirm alignment with the EPC Contract, HSSE requirements, engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
- Provide oversight to ensure C&S; construction activities are executed in accordance with approved Work Method Statements, CWPs, IWPs and technical specifications
- Support and provide assurance on critical and/or complex C&S; construction activities to ensure safe and compliant execution
- Conduct field audits and inspections to verify C&S; installation quality and adherence to standards
- Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) to ensure adequate quality control coverage and alignment with project requirements
- Review and evaluate Requests for Information (RFIs), ensuring timely and technically sound responses from engineering
- Provide technical expertise and advisory support to resolve complex civil and structural issues
- Ensure construction activities are executed in full compliance with approved CWPs, specifications, and codes
- Supervise and monitor critical construction activities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution
- Conduct field audits and inspections to verify installation quality and adherence to standards
- Support resolution of critical fabrication and installation issues to minimize disruption to construction progress
- Ensure all works comply with applicable building codes, safety regulations, and corporate standards
- Participate in Non-Conformance Report (NCR) investigations, including root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions
- Audit project deliverables and site practices to ensure consistent application of quality requirements
- Act as a key contributor in maintaining construction quality assurance and control processes
- Proactively identify construction risks and potential execution issues
- Assess and mitigate risks related to site integrity, safety, and regulatory compliance
- Recommend and implement risk mitigation strategies, including additional controls, barriers, and recovery plans
- Identify and propose schedule optimization and productivity improvement opportunities
- Lead or support constructability and efficiency reviews to minimize rework and enhance execution performance
- Serve as a primary subject matter resource for civil and structural construction, materials, and engineering standards
- Work closely with the EPC contractor and internal teams to ensure alignment on execution strategies and issue resolution
- Promote best practices, lessons learned, and continuous improvement across construction activities
- Provide input to scope changes and support accurate technical assessments, including estimated impacts where required
- Audit project deliverables to ensure strict adherence to local building code, safety regulation and corporate policies are included
- Serve as the primary “go-to” resources team for constructability, materials and engineering standards
- Serving as an expert/advisor to resolve technical project related problems
- Identify and propose schedule improvements ideas
- Conduct technical and constructability reviews that minimize rework and improve efficiency
- Review RFI’s and ensure adequate response from engineering
- Provide accurate estimates for RFI and scope change
The C&S; construction SME key responsibilities are: Technical Authority & Expertise
- Serve as the discipline authority for civil and structural construction (e.g., earthworks, piling, concrete, structural steel).
- Review and validate constructability, design intent, and field execution strategies.
- Provide technical direction on site issues, RFIs, field changes, and non-conformances.
- Ensure alignment with design basis, codes, standards, and project specifications (including foundations, drainage, and temporary works expectations seen in project scope documents)
Construction Execution & Performance
- Monitor construction progress of key activities and evaluate plan vs actual progress.
- Pro-actively identify EPC contractor bottlenecks affecting productivity or sequencing and propose solutions
- Ensure construction activities are executed in accordance with plans, procedures, and quality standards.
- Pro-actively identify constructability improvements and share with the EPC contractor for potential implementation
- Act as interface between the C&S; contractor field engineer and the owner’s construction supervisor
- Support resolution of technical queries, field changes, and design deviations during construction.
- Identify risks, constraints, and opportunities impacting construction delivery.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all construction activities comply with HSSE standards and company policies.
- Review quality assurance and quality control during execution
- Promote a “safety-first” culture and ensure adherence to regulatory and project requirements

You will use your expertise to:
- Pro-actively identify potential issues

- Use your C&S; skills to help maintain the critical path of construction
- Break down silos between the different teams (collaboration between teams)
- Improved constructability and productivity outcomes

- Take ultimate responsibility and ownership for teamwork outcomes (quality, schedule, cost and safety)
- Drive EPC contractor performance with clear follow-through and intervention when needed
- Ensure issues are solved rapidly and effectively and not escalated without ownership
To be successful, you will have:
- Passion HSSE and C&S; construction
- Strong C&S; construction and engineering knowledge (foundation and piling systems, reinforced concrete structures, structural steel erection and earthworks)
- Solid understanding of construction sequences and SIMOPS
- Proven ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
- Passion to drive construction outcomes
- Ability to quickly (pro-actively) identify issues and propose recommendations
- Minimum of 15 years hands-on construction experience in C&S; large project
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering (or related experience)
- Project execution experience (brownfield and greenfield)
- Excellent communication and relationship skills
This role requires that you:
- Report to the Senior Project Engineer SME team lead and support the owner’s construction team
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)
