CORE FUNCTION:

To promote the mental, emotional, social and spiritual health of SCC patients through trauma-informed, culturally safe and evidence-based practices. To do this through individual, couple, and family therapy, education, advocacy, community action, program leadership, and connecting clients to cultural services and resources.

DUTIES:

- Provides counselling and psychotherapy to Saskatoon and district people who are Indigenous and Westside Clinic patients.

- Supports people experiencing concerns including, but not limited to:

o Intergenerational trauma o Residential school impacts o Sixties scoop impacts o Grief and loss o Anxiety and depression o Crisis situations o Substance use o Chronic pain o Chronic psychiatric disorders o Gender and sexuality o Health changes and decisions

- Takes responsibility as the primary counsellor/psychotherapist and case manager for clients.

- Caseload will include some complex and difficult-to-serve cases.

- Interviews clients and assesses personal, family, social and employment functioning relevant to the problems and symptoms presented. Assesses social and other environmental concerns.

- Collaboratively determines a service plan and facilitates it through: individual, couple and family therapy; group treatment; connecting clients to cultural services and resources; and/or environmental change. Monitors and follows-up on client progress.

- Treats clients’ emotional, psychological, and relationship difficulties using a range of therapeutic models and methods.

- Refers clients to appropriate community agencies and services for assistance in improving personal, social, and vocational functioning, and for practical help. Advocates on their behalf as appropriate and necessary.

- Works in collaboration with family physicians and other health care workers in planning, service provision and treatment.





- Develop safety plans and perform risk assessments.

- Seeks consultation and supervision as necessary.

- Provides program leadership. Assesses client population needs and develops new strategies and programs to meet those needs. Proposes these to the interdisciplinary health care team for support and approval. Evaluates programs.

- Education patients, clinic members, other health workers, community services, and community members in worker’s areas of expertise. Participates in health promotion projects and activities.

- Participates on community committees and boards to develop and maintain community services relevant to the assessed needs of department clients.

- Provides clinical supervision for practicum students in social work, psychology, and other related disciplines.

- Works independently and interdependently in assessment and treatment, program leadership, education, and community action, subject o quality control supervision. Participates in quality control activities.

- Maintains records and statistics in accordance with the policies of this organization and the workers professional association. Writes client reports as necessary.

- Attends and participates in staff meetings and peer case consultations.

- Participates in the development of organizational policies.

- Participates in department and Clinic projects and committees as is appropriate to knowledge and skills.

- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with allied community programs and agencies.





- Maintains and upgrades knowledge and skills and develops new areas of expertise.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- A Master’s Degree in Social Work of Psychology or the equivalent in work experience, training and education. (To quality as having the equivalent to a master’s degree a person must have a Bachelor Degree, such as a B.S.W. or B. A. (Hon. Psych), that includes several courses in counselling theory and practice and a counselling practicum, plus additional training, and at least six years’ experience as a psychotherapist.)

- Eligible for registration in a qualified association, and eligible for liability insurance to practice psychotherapy.

- Three years’ experience as a psychotherapist, preferably in a health care setting.

- Significant clinical training in a broad range of assessment and treatment skills for individual, couple and family therapy.

- Knowledge, training, and skill in providing counselling to people with addictions.

- Demonstrated ability to work as a self-direct independent practitioner within a multidisciplinary health care team.

- Knowledge of and understanding of the general determinants of health and the effects of poverty.

- Fluency in an Indigenous language is an asset.

- Good oral and written communication skills.

- Must have a strong familiarity with an understanding of aboriginal cultures.

- Interest and skill in community development is an asset.

- Computer skills and knowledge is an asset.

- Compatibility with the philosophy of the Community Clinic.

- A valid Criminal Record Check is required.

- Valid driver’s license and a vehicle required.

- Demonstrates strong interpersonal and collaborative communication skills and attitude.

- This position is Indigenous Designate as per CBA LOU #5.

Pay: From $47.00 per hour
