Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer

Location: Vancouver, BC (Preferred) | Open to Remote Candidates Across Canada

Job Type: 3-Month Contract (Possibility of Extension)

Our client is seeking a Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer to support a strategic data modernization initiative. This role will focus on the hands-on development and implementation of a modern enterprise data platform, including building data pipelines, transforming complex datasets, and integrating data from multiple internal and external sources. The successful candidate will work closely with the data and technology teams to develop scalable ingestion processes, optimize data workflows, and help establish a reliable foundation for enterprise reporting and analytics.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and implement data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric Data Factory, Lakehouse, OneLake, and related Fabric services.
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT processes to ingest, transform, and load data from multiple sources.
- Develop data ingestion workflows for internal systems and external data providers.
- Transform large XML and semi-structured datasets into structured, analytics-ready formats.
- Perform data cleansing, validation, and transformation to improve data quality and reliability.
- Integrate data from SQL Server databases, third-party systems, vendor feeds, and external sources.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and data transformation logic.
- Support the creation and maintenance of enterprise data models.




- Troubleshoot pipeline failures, performance issues, and data quality challenges.
- Collaborate with data analysts, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver data solutions.
- Follow best practices for data engineering, documentation, security, and governance.

Required Qualifications

- Strong hands-on experience building data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric.

- Notebooks
- Semantic Models
- Strong experience with ETL/ELT development and data integration.
- Advanced SQL skills and experience working with SQL Server.
- Experience transforming large XML, JSON, or semi-structured datasets.
- Experience integrating data from multiple sources including databases, APIs, vendor files, and external systems.
- Experience with data cleansing, validation, and transformation processes.
- Understanding of contemporary data warehouse and lakehouse concepts.
- Ability to troubleshoot and optimize data pipelines.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate within a technical team.

Nice to Have

- Experience with Microsoft Azure data services.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory, Synapse, or Azure Data Lake.
- Background working in Financial Services, Insurance, or Wealth Management.
- Experience with high-volume data processing.
- Knowledge of ACORD or CLHIA data standards.
