The Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State (OSS) is committed to an inclusive work environment that values work each employee and reflects the communities we serve throughout Minnesota.
OSS is seeking a dedicated and forward-thinking DEAI Coordinator to develop, direct, and manage the Office’s Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion initiatives. This role serves as the office's DEAI expert—providing strategic guidance to leadership, supervisors, and staff; leading enterprise-wide DEAI planning; and advancing a workplace culture where every employee can thrive. The primary mission of this position is to build staff capacity to work inclusively, equitably, and effectively with each other and with the public, across differences of all kinds, to ensure exceptional service for all Minnesotans.
This position will serve as the Office's ADA and accessibility coordinator.
This position will report to the Human Resources Director. Additionally, this position will have the option of a flexible hybrid schedule. However; it will be based on the business needs of the unit.
Primary Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Program Development
- Design, develop, and implement a strategic plan, including annual training priorities
- Conduct trend analysis and evaluate policies, programs, and initiatives through a DEAI lens.
- Facilitate DEAI learning opportunities, staff trainings, and DEAI-related communication strategies.
- Serve as the agency’s DEAI subject matter expert, advising senior leadership and supervisors on best practices, emerging trends, and DEAI-driven organizational improvements.
- Develop programs that promote a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive organizational culture.
Engagement, Inclusion, & Accessibility Coordination
- Serve as OSS's engagement and inclusion champion and primary coordinator of the Office's DEAI Committee.
- Lead efforts to improve recruiting, hiring,
retention, and promotion outcomes for diverse candidates and individuals across a wide range of differences.
- Serve as the Office’s ADA Coordinator, including receiving and responding to reasonable accommodation requests and ensuring compliance with state and federal ADA requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of advanced professional experience planning, implementing, and developing programs in a position with a diversity, equity, and inclusion focus; And demonstrates working with diverse communities and building relationships within those communities.
Experience And Skills Must Include
- Championing equity, inclusion, and accessibility by evaluating policies, procedures and ideas and providing recommendations for improvement.
- Successful track record with applied strategic planning, change management and project management.
- Experience supporting and advising teams; coordinate training and staff development; meeting facilitation.
- Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.
- Communications skills sufficient to work effectively and facilitate dialogue and conflict resolution with a variety of individuals.
Note: A Master's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Social Work, Education, or related field substitutes for eighteen months of experience, or a related Bachelor's degree substitutes for one year, or a related Associate's substitutes for six months.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in human resources, equal opportunity, Affir... Action, ADA administration within the State of Minnesota or other public sector systems.
- Experience providing consultation and coaching to management to improve cross-cultural communication.
- Experience working with Title II of the ADA
- Experience creating accessible Word, PDF, Excel, and PowerPoint documents.
- Advanced skills in effective project management including project planning, organization, and implementation.
