Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Position Overview

This role is responsible for providing individualized person-directed support for people with diverse needs by implementing appropriate interventions, evidence-informed strategies, and tailored programming. In some cases this may include supporting medically fragile persons, including delegated controlled acts and medication administration

Key Responsibilities

- Participate in daily living tasks, including cooking, cleaning, and laundry
- Administer medications as required
- Encourage involvement in meaningful community activities and relationships
- Collaborate with internal teams and external professionals (for example, behaviour therapists)
- Provide personal care, hygiene assistance, and support with ADLs
- Work collaboratively with health care teams, families, and peers
- Promote belonging through meaningful home and community participation
- Submit expenses via Concur and complete daily documentation
- Respond appropriately to behavioural escalations and crisis situations
- Update daily notes appropriately
- Monitor email and other communications to ensure awareness
- Proactive problem solving
- Document daily support and progress per QAM and MCCSS guidelines
- Book and attend outings or appointments and coordinate vehicle use
- Complete administrative tasks, including expenses (Concur) and notes
- Adhere to compliance under OHSA, AODA, and the Ontario Human Rights Code

What we are looking for

- Human Services diploma (DSW, SSW, PSW) or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated ability to support vulnerable individuals with compassion and respect
- Knowledge and understanding of best practices related to supporting individuals with varying behavioural and neurodivergent needs
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and experience managing crisis situations
- Strong computer, time management, and communication skills
- Ability to navigate multiple, sometimes competing priorities
- Attention to detail, responsiveness, and ability to follow direction
- Ability to think critically and problem solve




- Willingness to contribute positively to workplace culture and team collaboration
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
- Valid Ontario G Driver’s Licence and reliable transportation
- Physical ability to support individuals and use mechanical lifts as required
