Role Description The Director of Technical Operations is a full-time, on-site role based in Invermere, BC, responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of drone operations and data production. This role manages technical support and troubleshooting efforts, ensuring reliable equipment performance, timely resolution of issues, and continuous improvement of workflows.
The Director will lead program management for operational projects, including planning, resourcing, and coordination of field teams to meet client and safety requirements. Day-to-day responsibilities include optimizing processes to align with quality standards, managing technical budgets, and monitoring performance metrics to maintain cost-effective, high-quality service delivery.
The Director will collaborate closely with leadership, clients, and technical staff to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulations and best practices.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong Technical Support and Troubleshooting skills for equipment, software, and operational workflows.
Candidates should possess Program Management and Budgeting skills to oversee technical projects, resource allocation, and cost control.
Candidates should possess knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) or comparable quality and safety frameworks, with the ability to apply structured standards to technical operations.
Relevant experience in Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), drone operations, geospatial or GIS-related services, or technical field operations and hands-on technical computer experience is highly beneficial.
Leadership experience managing technical teams, including setting priorities, coaching staff, and fostering a safety-focused culture, is preferred.
Robust analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to document processes, interpret data, and present findings to stakeholders.
Post-secondary education in engineering, technology, operations management, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience in a technical operations role.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements for drone operations, and the ability to ensure compliance with local and national standards.
