Faculty, 3D Modeling, Art and Animation (Demo Reel Production Capstone Project) Position Title Faculty, 3D Modeling, Art and Animation (Demo Reel Production Capstone Project) Position Summary BCIT’s School of Business + Media is seeking a temporary, part‑time (0.2 FTE) Faculty, 3D Modeling, Art and Animation. We are seeking individuals who are highly qualified, enthusiastic, committed to quality and innovation in meeting our students’ needs, and who value the importance of teamwork in the workplace.
- MDAA 4025 – Demo Reel Production Capstone Project (20%) In this course students will work on developing their demo reel based on their proposal and planning created in the previous term. Under the supervision and direction of the instructor, students create, test, revise and deliver their final professional demo reel based on industry standards. Students meet with the instructor (in person or online) and review the progress, receive feedback, and implement any revisions necessary for creating an industry standard demo reel.
Duties & Responsibilities The successful candidate will deliver high‑quality instruction within the 3D Modeling, Art and Animation diploma program.
Responsibilities include preparing and delivering course materials; assessing and evaluating student performance; providing mentorship, feedback, and academic support; maintaining course records; fostering an inclusive and engaging learning workplace; and ensuring curriculum delivery reflects current industry standards and practices. Instructors are expected to collaborate with colleagues, contribute to program quality and continuous improvement initiatives, and support student success through professional, effective, and student‑centered teaching.
Qualifications - Diploma or Degree in 3D Animation, Game Art, Visual Effects, Computer Graphics, or a related discipline,
or equivalent professional industry experience.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the film, animation, visual effects, or game development industry in a relevant discipline (e.g., modeling, animation, rigging, texturing, lighting, environment art, or technical art).
- Demonstrated expertise in current 3D production pipelines, including modeling, texturing, animation, rendering, and real‑time workflows used in industry.
- Strong understanding of industry standards, tools, and emerging trends in digital content creation.
- Experience mentoring artists or supervising creative projects in a production or educational environment.
- Ability to guide students in planning, researching, and executing complex capstone projects aligned with professional portfolio goals.
- Experience providing constructive critique and artistic direction to help students refine visual quality, technical execution, and storytelling in their projects.
- Strong understanding of demo reel development and portfolio presentation for entry‑level positions in the animation, game, or visual effects industries.
- Ability to assist students in identifying appropriate techniques, methodologies, and workflows for their individual specialization areas.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor students through long‑term project development.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience recruiting, interviewing, reviewing portfolios,
or participating in hiring decisions within the game, animation, or visual effects industry.
- Previous post‑secondary teaching or mentoring experience.
- Demonstrated industry success with appropriate and current experience and skills in the entire 3D pipeline including 3D Modeling, Animating, Rigging, Texturing, Lighting, and Rendering.
- Experience in Redshift, Arnold, and Unreal Engine.

Salary Range Salary Range: $69,006 - $120,460 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
