Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educational Assistant for a full - time position at our Nature School, September 2026 - June 2027. You will be working with a team to support students ages 4-14 in our democratic, child-directed nature school, where we spend the majority of time outdoors.
Our ideal candidate
- is comfortable spending time outdoors in all weather
- has a background in working with children, leading groups, indigenous knowledge, or has an interest in environmentalism, horticulture, bushcraft or other related experience.
-holds a degree or diploma in a related field such as Teaching, Early Childhood Educator, Teaching Assistant, Educational Assistant, Forest School Practitioner OR related experience -is comfortable working in an environment that has large portions of time that is unstructured
-is fun, reliable, flexible, open, caring, compassionate, patient, able to ‘let go’ of adult privilege and supportive of a child-lead, democratic environment
-is comfortable working with a team to develop and implement a program that meets needs of all children
Responsibilities
- Forest School leader (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays)
- Assisting with supervision in our outdoor and indoor classroom
- Support children ages 4-14 yrs in academic, social and emotional growth
- May be asked to work one-on-one or in small groups with students for math and language lessons.
- Supervise students in our unique outdoor school, in all weather
- Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills.
- general cleaning/organizing, possibly some administrative work
Requirements
- Previous classroom experience is preferred, ideally in an educational setting.
- Background in teaching or early childhood education is advantageous.
- Experience working with children, especially those with disabilities or special education needs.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents.
- Basic math skills to assist students with their learning objectives.
- Comfortable walking on all terrain in all weather
- Open to embracing our Nature-based, child-led alternative education model

Pay: $20.00-$24.00 per hour
