Job Summary The Grocery Clerk is responsible for ensuring that the grocery department is well-stocked, clean, and visually appealing. This role involves maintaining product displays, replenishing stock levels, and assisting customers with their inquiries. The Grocery Clerk plays a key role in creating a welcoming shopping experience by providing excellent customer service and maintaining compliance with safety and sanitation standards.

Key Responsibilities & Expectations

Product Display & Merchandising

- Maintain product displays by executing merchandising plans and plan-o-grams.
- Replenish stock by monitoring product levels and restocking shelves within established guidelines.
- Assist in building store displays and stocking high shelves as needed.
- Conduct regular inventory counts to ensure accurate stock levels.

Department Appearance & Compliance

- Ensure the cleanliness of the grocery department, including floors, display areas, and shelves.
- Clean and sanitize work areas in compliance with food safety, health, and safety regulations.
- Maintain compliance with government legislation (Food Safety, Health & Safety).

Customer Service

- Greet customers and provide assistance with locating products and answering general inquiries.
- Offer help with packing groceries and ensuring a smooth checkout experience.

Inventory Management & Receiving

- Complete and submit order forms to maintain inventory levels.
- Receive and process warehouse orders, checking products, unloading trucks, and documenting deliveries.
- Properly store products in designated areas.

Store Readiness & Maintenance

- Support opening and closing procedures, including security measures and housekeeping duties.




- Keep the checkout area, shelves, and merchandise displays neat, tidy, and well-organized.
- Assist with general housekeeping duties, ensuring cleanliness and orderliness throughout the store, warehouse, parking lot and yard.

Professionalism & Appearance

- Maintain a skilled, well-groomed appearance in line with the store’s uniform policy.
- Safety & Security
- Monitor for potential shoplifting incidents and take appropriate actions as per store policy.
- Follow and enforce safety protocols to ensure a secure environment for employees and customers.
- Ensure OHS standards are policies are being followed.

Team Support & Training

- Assist in training new personnel.
- Attend store meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Support store management with additional duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous retail experience is an asset.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and continuously develop professional skills.

Working Conditions

- Work in a fast-paced environment that requires long periods of standing and walking.
- Exposure to cold storage areas.
- Lift and carry merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs.

Pay: From $17.50 per hour
