The opportunity

This is a senior, autonomous leadership role for someone who wants to own a tax function end to end — compliance, advisory, and the systems and standards that hold it together. You will work closely with firm leadership, and your voice will carry real weight in how the function grows.

The role is remote and flexible, designed for someone who is self-directed and delivers without needing to be managed. As the firm grows, this seat grows with it, including future responsibility for building and leading a team.

What the role involves

- Taking full ownership of the tax function, including scheduling, workflows, quality standards, and overall delivery
- Building a proactive, calendar-driven operation that runs on a predictable cadence rather than firefighting deadlines
- Preparing and reviewing corporate and personal tax returns, compilation statements, and government filings to a consistently high standard
- Communicating tax obligations and instalment requirements to clients ahead of every deadline, with no surprises
- Developing standardized year-end processes, including workpapers, supporting schedules, and clear action items for internal teams
- Leading complex advisory-level tax relationships personally, delivering forward-looking strategies that actively improve each client's financial position
- Partnering with other service lines to ensure tax planning is aligned with each client's broader financial strategy
- Supporting internal teams with timely,

- Monitoring capacity across the function and making the case to leadership for additional resources before constraints affect delivery
- Identifying opportunities to expand client engagements and collaborating with internal stakeholders to support continued growth
- Overseeing tax onboarding for new clients, including CRA access, information gathering, and introductions
- Reporting on agreed performance metrics and taking personal accountability for results
- Continuously improving processes, templates, and technology adoption within the function
- Collecting and surfacing client feedback to the relevant internal stakeholders
- In time, leading and mentoring a growing tax team, supporting the professional development of associates and building their capacity to handle increasingly complex work

What you bring

- Significant experience in a tax-focused accounting role, with a strong command of both corporate and personal tax in a Canadian context
- A CPA designation or equivalent professional qualification
- Proven ability to run a tax function or practice area with real autonomy and accountability
- Comfort working in a fast-growing, entrepreneurial environment where things change quickly and structure is still being built
- A proactive, advisory mindset. You see beyond compliance and genuinely enjoy improving your clients' financial outcomes
- Solid communication skills and the ability to translate complex tax matters into clear, actionable guidance
- High personal standards around accuracy, timeliness, and quality
- The self-direction and discipline to thrive in a remote, flexible working environment
- An appetite to build (processes, standards, teams, and client relationships)

Nice to have

- Familiarity with AI tools and a curiosity about applying them to accounting workflows
- Prior experience in a founder-led or boutique professional services firm
- Experience mentoring or managing junior tax staff
