- Email [email protected] The first and primary assignment of this role is an exciting Renewable Energy Mega-Project in Pumped Storage Hydro Power Generation. Reporting to the Project Manager, Lead Engineer, the Instrumentation & Controls Designer / Technologist will support the preparation of instrumentation, controls, automation, industrial network, and vendor package integration deliverables for utility and heavy industrial projects. The successful candidate will assist with design drawings, documentation, vendor drawing review, interdisciplinary coordination, and support for construction and commissioning activities. This role is well suited for a designer, technologist, or developing I&C; professional with experience in industrial controls, instrumentation, panel design, wiring diagrams, and related project documentation. Sectors served by Magna IV Engineering include power utilities, gas and oil, bulk material handling, pulp and paper, industrial substations, generation facilities, co-generation units, hydroelectric facilities, and other heavy industrial clients.

Responsibilities Design & Technical Support - Prepare and revise control panel layouts, PLC panel layouts, remote I/O panel layouts, junction box layouts, and related control system drawings

- Prepare and revise control schematics, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, interconnection diagrams, termination drawings, cable schedules, and installation details
- Prepare and maintain instrument indexes, I/O lists, instrument datasheets, loop sheets, cable schedules, and related design documentation
- Assist with control system architecture, industrial network layouts, communication interfaces, and vendor package integration requirements
- Support the selection and specification of field instrumentation
- Assist with control narratives,



sequences of operation, alarm requirements, permissives, interlocks, and shutdown logic
- Support PLC, HMI, and SCADA design requirements, including operator interface layouts, alarms, trends, reports, and system functionality
- Review vendor drawings and documentation for alignment with project requirements, client standards, and constructability
- Coordinate with engineers, designers, vendors, contractors, and other disciplines to support complete and accurate design packages
- Support quality reviews by checking drawings, lists, schedules, and design packages for accuracy, consistency, and completeness
- Support factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, loop checks, functional testing, commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting activities as required
- Maintain organized project documentation, drawing files, redlines, markups, and design records
- Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing Success Measurements - Success of the I&C; Designer / Technologist will be based on the following core metrics:
- Completion of assigned design deliverables with minimal errors during quality reviews
- Ability to complete assigned work within expected budgets and schedules
- Quality, accuracy, consistency, and completeness of drawings, lists, schedules, and design documentation
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, designers, programmers, vendors, and other project stakeholders
- Continued development of technical skills, design knowledge, and project execution capabilities Requirements - Engineering Degree or Technologist Diploma
- A minimum 4 years experience in instrumentation, controls and automation design




- Must have a valid drivers’ license and be able to travel (within North America) Successful Candidate Skills & Assets - Knowledge of instrumentation, controls, automation, and industrial network systems in utility, generation, and heavy industrial environments.
- Ability to prepare and revise I&C; design deliverables, including panel layouts, schematics, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, cable schedules, termination drawings, instrument indexes, I/O lists, datasheets, and related documentation.
- Working knowledge of PLC, HMI, SCADA, remote I/O, industrial communication systems, network layouts, and vendor package integration.
- Ability to support the development of control narratives, sequences of operation, alarms, permissives, interlocks, and shutdown logic.
- Ability to review vendor drawings and documentation for alignment with project requirements, client standards, constructability, and system integration needs.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and ability to produce accurate and complete drawings and documentation.
- Positive attitude, self-motivated, reliable, safety-focused, and dedicated to providing exceptional client service.
- Willingness to travel, work flexible shifts as required, and work in office, site, or home-office environments.
- Willingness to work on an hourly basis, including above and below 40-hour weeks during swings in workload, with an average full-time workload of 40 hours per week.
