The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) is a Crown corporation responsible for overseeing the Canadian federal interests in four international bridge crossings between Canada and the United States. Its mandate is to provide the highest level of stewardship so that the international bridges and associated structures are safe and efficient for users. FBCL owns, manages and operates international bridges and associated structures in Sault Ste.
Marie, Point Edward, Lansdowne (Thousand Islands) and Cornwall, Ontario.
Summary Reporting to the Technology and Information Systems Director, the IT Architecture Specialist is responsible for making recommendations and supporting the design of IT systems and solutions for the corporation. This includes design and integration activities relating to network, server, security and applications for new or existing information systems.
As a specialist the incumbent will provide top-level support to corporate systems, guidance to other resources on intermediate to complex technical issues in order to provide and maintain multi-site support. Along with providing oversight of the network/server operations and environment to maintain optimal performance while ensuring security, robustness, and consistently available corporate IT infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities
With approval from the director designs, implements, and ensures operational function of corporate networks, servers and operational systems including IT system security
Understands company needs and strategic goals to make recommendations on system specifications
Plans and designs the structure of technical solutions in alignment with guiding principals provided
Communicates system requirements to internal and external resources
Evaluates and recommends appropriate software or hardware and suggests integration methods for new or existing solutions
Oversees system implementations
Solving escalated technical problems and supporting resources with problem resolution
Works with solution providers to review architecture for conformance to the Corporation’s IT Standards
Monitors systems to ensure they meet both user needs and business goals
Recommends integration design of corporate applications, programs and/or systems
Openly shares technical knowledge and mentors other IT team members
Keep current with industry trends and best practices in regards to on premise and cloud computing, vendor offerings, and security advancements
Recommends and supports the development of policies and procedures
IT Security (40%)
Make recommendations on the designs and implementation corporate cyber security solutions
Recommends security requirements to support corporate initiatives
Recommends and verifies security standards/controls for systems and devices across organization to meet FBCL security policies and/or best practices necessary for the protection of information resources
Maintains awareness to new and existing security threats and initiates, coordinates action to mitigate as appropriate
Leads information security awareness sessions and elaborates education materials and other documentation
Completes appropriate system security patching and updates are completed and maintained regularly
Identifies security risks, escalates risks or action plan for acceptance by management
Effectively and quickly communicates security risks and possible network disruptions to management for decision making and/or direction
Project Management (20%)
Responsible for project scoping and planning, project documentation, stakeholder communication and contractor management as assigned
Manages assigned projects and program components in accordance with established objectives
Creates and recommends architectural documents and specifications as needed, including network/security designs and diagrams
Provides timely project status updates to management
Coordinates effectively with other project members in delivering the services as and when needed
Leads initiatives to ensure completion of IT and support systems as required
Essential Qualifications
Diploma (3 years) from a recognized post‑secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another related specialty related to the duties of the position and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent certification and/or experience
Required Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) or equivalent certification and/or experience
Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in like role
Advanced knowledge of information security technologies, methodologies, and best practices in the domains of: security administration of networks, operating systems, databases and applications, access control, encryption, firewalls and proxies, networking, security event log analysis, malware prevention and remediation, cloud technologies, security incident response, vulnerability assessment, intrusion detection and prevention, system administration
Experience with CCTV systems (e.g. Genetec), electronic signage and building systems
Experience in framework architecture, including engineering, supporting and developing enterprise IT solutions in hosted and cloud environment
Experience in collecting and analyzing stakeholder requirements, and managing external contractors/resources to achieve required results
Experience in network infrastructure components, internetworking devices, user management and network architectures
Experience in server architecture and build dependencies relative to system requirements in physical, virtual and cloud environments
Knowledge of evaluating, testing, implementing tools for monitoring and systems management
Demonstrated ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, design and implement effective solutions
Demonstrated ability to prepare reports and analyze complex information
Solid time management, prioritization, organization abilities, interpersonal skills and communication skills required
Strong attention to detail, analytical and troubleshooting skills
Ability to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance required; and
Ability to demonstrate and maintain language requirement (English Essential) is required
