Midland Food is a agile and growing seafood wholesale distributor serving the Greater Toronto Area. We specialize in delivering high-quality frozen seafood and food products to restaurants, retail markets and other food service businesses.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Accountant to join our finance team on a 1-year contract. The successful candidate will primarily support accounts receivable, cash management, and month-end closing activities while collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable
- Apply incoming customer payments accurately to the appropriate accounts and investigate any unmatched or incomplete remittance information.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date Accounts Receivable records in NetSuite to support financial reporting and account reconciliation.
- Collaborate closely with the Sales team to resolve billing inquiries, payment discrepancies, and customer account issues.
- Prepare and monitor Accounts Receivable aging reports, follow up on overdue balances, and manage collection activities professionally and effectively.
Cash Management
- Maintain daily bank book and petty cash records,
ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and promptly.
Month-End Closing
- Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
- Maintain balance sheet schedules and assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
General Support
- Provide support for other accounting functions and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Ability to work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Well-organized with excellent planning and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build effective working relationships across departments.
- Strong sense of accountability, ownership, and professionalism.
- Minimum of one year of experience in Accounts Receivable or a similar accounting role.
- Experience with NetSuite is an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin and/or Cantonese .
