This role requires hands-on technical leadership, strong data engineering fundamentals, experience in Agile delivery models , proficiency with Jira for planning, tracking, and execution with the ability to guide teams through cloud-based data transformations while ensuring stability of current platforms.Key ResponsibilitiesETL Application Ownership & EnhancementLead the support, enhancement, and optimization of existing Ab Initio ETL applicationsAnalyze current ETL frameworks and recommend performance, scalability, and reliability improvementsEnsure adherence to enterprise data engineering standards, coding best practices, and governanceDrive defect resolution, root cause analysis, and proactive optimizationAWS Data Platform Design & ModernizationArchitect and design ETL/ELT pipelines in AWS for redesigning existing on‑prem or legacy ETL applicationsLead migration and modernization initiatives from Ab Initio/on‑prem platforms to AWS-native solutionsDesign scalable data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration patterns using AWS servicesEvaluate and implement cost‑effective, performant cloud solutions aligned with business needsAgile Delivery & Team LeadershipWork in an Agile/Scrum or SAFe workplace , actively participating in sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily stand‑ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectivesCollaborate with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Architects, QA, and DevOps teamsBreak down complex data engineering work into Jira epics, stories, and tasksProvide accurate estimations, track progress, and manage dependencies using JiraMentor and guide junior engineers, ensuring high-quality and timely deliveryRequired Skills & QualificationsExperience & EducationTypically between 5–7 years of relevant experience in data engineering, ETL development,
and/or data platform designPost‑secondary degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceCore Technical SkillsStrong hands-on experience with Ab InitioGDE, metadata managementGraph performance tuning and complex data transformationsAWS Data Engineering ExpertiseServices such as S3, Glue, Redshift, LambdaExperience designing ETL/ELT architectures in cloudStrong SQL and data modeling skills (dimensional & analytical models)Experience with large-scale batch data processing and data warehousingEngineering & DeliveryStrong experience with data pipeline orchestration and schedulingCI/CD knowledge (Ansible, Artifactory, GitHub Actions, or similar)Familiarity with data quality, reconciliation, and controlsSolid understanding of security, IAM, and data governance in AWSSoft SkillsProven technical leadership and mentoring capabilitiesStrong analytical and problem‑solving skillsExcellent communication skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholdersAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environmentNice to HaveExperience with Business Intelligence tools like Business Objects, PowerBI, AxiomExperience in financial services, regulatory, or risk data platformsExperience with modernization or sunset of legacy ETL platformsSalary :$75,900.00 - $141,900.00Pay Type:SalariedThe above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked.
