Experience
- Planning, organizing and managing events that enhance the lives of the residents and their families;
- Teaching and adapting programs and activities for specific capabilities and disabilities;
- Developing a volunteer program and assisting in managing and directing volunteers with enthusiastic sensitivity;
- Developing a life enrichment program that caters to the diverse individual needs of the residents;
- Integrating with outside community programs.
- Organization in conjunction with marketing department for community events
- Set up and maintain activities for staff functions to create a family atmosphere
- Set up and maintain a staff recognition and team building program
- Assisting residents with any personal care needs that may be required (ie. Toileting, Dressing, etc.)
Education -Secondary education;
-Post-secondary education in recreation therapy, gerontology, or equivalent is preferred
-Be able to read,
write and comfortably communicate in English;
Duties
1. Interview and assess residents social history, physical ability and behaviors, spiritual life style, key memories and losses, family dynamics and contacts, dietary requirements and language abilities;
2. Participate in the managing of the volunteer program in the home, including recruitment, selection, termination, orientation, motivation and development of volunteers;
3. Participate in the creation of the annual calendar of events offering a variety of activities and events that cater to the social needs of the residents. These events shall also develop the social senses of residents who may be depressed or otherwise withdrawn.
4. Participate in the planning, organizing of the monthly activity schedule offering a variety of programs for each domain of health;
5. Execute, through volunteers and other resources, the monthly activities schedule;
6. Create an enjoyable, relaxed and entertaining environment in the home and assume responsibility for the morale and well-being of residents;
7. Plan and organize individualized life enrichment programs for the residents;
8.
Communicate with each and every resident daily – each person should be touched;
9. Participate in the planning, organizing, writing and publishing of the monthly newsletter containing a variety of articles and information for distribution to the residents and their families;
10. Participate in the development and monitoring of the welcoming committee for the new residents, hospital visitation committee, residents' council and fund raising committee;
11. Contact and maintain positive relationships with community organizations;
12. Participate in conferences and instructional courses;
13. Submit monthly life enrichment reports;
14. Create a special calendar/events for the residents with Dementia/Alzheimer’s;
15. Plan outings for residents with special care needs;
16. Develop and maintain a Dementia/Alzheimer activity program incorporating various forms of best-practices (Montessori methods, Pet Therapy, Multi-sensory Environments, Technology Devices, etc.)
17. Be aware and react to special needs
Personal Characteristics
- Able to perform the physical work required, such as lifting residents with disabilities or moving wheelchairs, also moving furniture to set up rooms.
- Fun to be with, organized, sensitive, enthusiastic, patient, tactful, mature;
- Must be able to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, volunteers, residents, and families.
Pay: From $18.75 per hour
