Duties
- Safely operate commercial trucks and heavy equipment such as forklifts to load, unload, and transport lumber and building materials within the yard and to customer locations
- Verify freight loads for accuracy, ensuring proper documentation and secure stacking of materials
- Conduct routine inspections of vehicles and equipment, performing basic automotive repairs or maintenance as needed to ensure safety and reliability
- Assist with yard organization by moving pallets, stacking lumber, and maintaining a clean work environment
- Communicate effectively with team members, dispatchers, and customers to coordinate deliveries and pickups efficiently
- Follow all safety protocols,
including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to traffic laws within the yard
- Complete delivery logs, inspection reports, and other documentation accurately for record-keeping purposes
Experience
- Proven experience operating forklifts, heavy machinery, and commercial trucks in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of freight handling procedures and safe driving practices for commercial vehicles
- Ability to perform basic automotive repairs or troubleshooting when necessary
- Prior experience working in a lumber yard or construction materials environment is a plus
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; Class 3, Class 1 + Q endorsement.
- Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to safety and operational efficiency
