Company Description Mission Launch Ontario is a student-led initiative dedicated to developing technology that improves wildfire surveillance, strengthens community preparedness, and delivers affordable reconnaissance services to underserved regions. The team focuses on designing and constructing specialized airframes, currently working to finalize Prototype 1, verify flight systems, and move into extended-range testing. Through ongoing research and innovation, Mission Launch Ontario advances the next generation of aerospace technology to support reliable wildfire monitoring.
The project aims to empower community-level initiatives across Canada with accessible, responsive surveillance capabilities.
Role Description This full-time Mechanical Engineer role is an on-site position based in Whitby, ON.
The Mechanical
Engineer will design, analyze, and optimize airframe structures and mechanical systems for wildfire surveillance platforms. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing CAD models and detailed drawings, performing mechanical and structural analyses, and supporting prototype fabrication, assembly, and testing. The role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary team members, contributing to R&D; activities, and participating in design reviews, documentation, and continuous improvement of system performance.
The Mechanical
Engineer will also assist with project planning, timelines, and coordination to ensure successful delivery of prototype and production-ready systems.
Qualifications Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering, with knowledge of aerospace or related mechanical systems.
Proficiency in Machine Design and mechanical component selection for structural and dynamic applications.
Hands-on skills in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for 3D modeling and technical drafting.
Experience or interest in Research and Development (R&D;), including prototyping, testing, and iterative design.
Basic Project Management skills to support planning, task coordination, and timeline tracking.
Ability to work in office in a lab or workshop environment, including safe use of tools and test equipment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and clear technical communication.
Relevant education in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field; student or early-career candidates are welcome.
Experience with finite element analysis (FEA), structural testing, or aerospace projects is an asset.
Commitment to collaborative, inclusive teamwork and an interest in wildfire mitigation and community resilience.
