Responsibilities View English and Inuktitut version Develop supportive communities through the provision of community engagement and outreach activities. Such as, but not limited to; community events to promote social connection and offer mental health and addictions education, land-based activities, youth events, mentoring and leadership programs – while incorporating traditional knowledge and skills into programming

Promote positive mental health by enhancing the capacity of individuals and communities to take greater control over their lives and improve their mental well-being

Create programming that includes awareness resources around positive mental health, skill building sessions to support problem solving and emotional coping, enhance social connections, work-life balance, anti-violence and discrimination and access to economic resources.

Collaborate with the Mental Health & Addictions (MH&A;) Manager to develop Inuit specific promotional materials and information for health promotion initiatives

Facilitate educational workshops on mental health and addictions related topics such as, but not limited to: healthy relationships, mental health promotion, sharing circles, etc.

Create and maintain current and accurate records of client interactions, of clients served and their issues. Maintain notes about community contacts, presentations, and workshops, for the purpose of planning future presentations and workshops. In the form of submitting monthly reports to the MH&A; Manager

Provide supportive counselling as required on an early intervention, short-term basis, to address at risk individuals and crisis situations

Provide mental health and addictions supportive counselling and supports to individuals, families and groups on the misuse and effects of alcohol and drugs.

Work in collaboration with internal and external partners to enhance career development and/or connect and refer clients.

Be able to provide supportive substance use intervention along the spectrum of substance use; inclusive of prevention, harm reduction,



referrals to detox and treatment programming, and after-care/postvention supports.

Provide support during crisis and/or traumatic events as needed, such as offering grief support, home visits, and outreach to those identified needing support

Assist individuals to identify their need for treatment programs and complete the treatment referral process, ensuring they meet both the treatment Centre and DHSD requirements

Actively facilitate and/or participate in child, parent, and family programs for the purpose of supporting parents and families in the development and support of skill building. Activities to incorporate early childhood programs, parenting education and support groups, and family skill-based programs

Work collaboratively with divisions within the Department of Health Social Development, to plan and deliver a variety of mental health & addictions promotion, prevention, and educational programming

Network and collaborate with other health and social professionals, education, justice, community organizations, elders, traditional healers, and regional Inuit associations.

Travel as required

Other related duties as required

Qualifications Diploma in Social Work or Mental Health and Addictions with 3-5 years of related experience. Relevant education and/or experience will be considered. Self-directed with strong interpersonal, writing and communication skills

Able to work effectively as a team player

Strong understanding of social, cultural and community issues facing Inuit communities

Able to draw on, and build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, agencies, helpers & elders, within and outside the community.
