MUSCULOSKELETAL RADIOLOGIST – HAMILTON GENERAL SITE The Department of Medical Imaging, McMaster University and the Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Hamilton Health Sciences are seeking a full-time academic musculoskeletal imaging radiologist for the Hamilton General Hospital.

The Hamilton General Hospital is a tertiary care hospital and Level 1 orthopedic trauma regional center of excellence covering South Central and Southwest Ontario, a region with a population of 2.3 million people. It is also one of the largest trauma centres in Canada with high acute and emergency care burden. The MSK Radiology Division at the Hamilton General Hospital works closely with the orthopedic surgeons, plastic surgeons, neurologists, family physicians and physiatrists to provide timely and comprehensive patient care.

McMaster University is also home of the David Braley Athletic Center which is one of the largest fitness centers at a Canadian university, providing care to McMaster University athletes as well as outpatients with sports-related injuries. As such we see a wide range of musculoskeletal pathology, as our population ranges from primary care to tertiary care. T he musculoskeletal work encompasses the spectrum of orthopedic work, with all aspects of MSK, including sports injury and focus on trauma, pain management and rehabilitation.

The diagnostic imaging team works alongside clinical colleagues to provide optimal evidence-based care to patients with soft tissue, bone and joint pathologies.

The Hamilton General Hospital Radiology Association consists of 25-30 subspecialty trained radiologists overseeing tertiary care practice and a diverse community independent health facility (IHF) practice. The association offers flexible percentage FTE status for interested applicants. Our practice model offers hybrid reporting options with mixture of on-site and remote reporting opportunities to allow for flexible scheduling.

Clinical assignments include some general and body radiology, as well as participation in the department body radiologist on-call schedule. Community practice setting assignments are inclusive of musculoskeletal ultrasound and BMD.

Fellowship training in musculoskeletal imaging is expected. Applicants must possess strong diagnostic skills which will enhance our tertiary imaging team and multi- disciplinary programs and have proven established experience in trauma and sports imaging. Interventional MSK skills are also expected.

The successful candidate will be scheduled for clinical work, subspecialty and teaching rounds, including contributions of expertise and regular participation in departmental and multidisciplinary trauma rounds. Radiology skills must be inclusive of all musculoskeletal modalities, with experience in MSK ultrasound and ultrasound-guided interventions which is essential, besides standard fluoroscopy/CT guided MSK interventions. Other MSK interventional skills such as radiofrequency / cryoablations, vertebroplasty, cementoplasty and advanced pain management procedures will be helpful though not mandatory, as the department is planning to expand these interventions currently performed by our interventional radiologists.

This is a full-time faculty position at McMaster University, with academic rank commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will promote clinical scholarship through teaching, mentorship and support for research and will demonstrate excellence in clinical care, exhibit collegial,



civil relations in all interactions. Participation in teaching and supervision for our Diagnostic Radiology residency program and musculoskeletal fellowship, as well as undergraduate programs is required.

Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario, certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) and meet the credentialing requirements of Hamilton Health Sciences and radiology group affiliated community practices.
