Role Overview
The Principal, Financial Engineering is a senior leadership role embedded within BCI’s Financial Engineering branch. The incumbent leads a team of financial engineers and analysts while remaining an active technical contributor, designing, developing, and deploying production‑grade financial models and analytical platforms in a regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coach a high‑performing team of financial engineers and analysts, setting objectives and supporting continuous learning.
- Maintain ownership of the branch’s CI/CD pipeline and release processes across Posit Connect, Jupyter, Docker, and MongoDB Atlas.
- Hands‑on development, validation, and maintenance of models for derivatives valuation, FX hedging, cash liquidity forecasting, securities lending, and collateral management.
- Design and implement analytical platforms, business‑facing portals, and up-to-date DevOps practices.
- Govern model quality and technical risk as the escalation point, collaborating with the Architecture Working Group and Innovation Council.
- Engage stakeholders across Derivatives, Collateral, Cash, Trade Management, and Business Solutions, including preparing business cases and programme updates for senior leadership.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, benchmark processes, and enforce best practices in coding, testing, and documentation.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive experience in financial engineering, quantitative finance, or a closely related discipline, preferably within a large asset‑management or banking firm.
- Proven record of personally writing and shipping production‑grade financial models in R and/or Python.
- Hands‑on proficiency with SQL and non‑SQL databases (e.g., MongoDB) and version control (Git/Bitbucket).
- Experience with CI/CD tooling, containerisation (Docker), and cloud platforms (AWS or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of derivatives markets, OTC and exchange‑traded products, FX, and fixed‑income valuation, hedging, and lifecycle concepts.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
- Relevant quantitative degree (STEM, finance, economics, computer science); advanced degree or professional designation (MSc, PhD, CFA, FRM, CQF, MBA, CPA) is a strong asset.
Preferred / Helpful Experience
- Designing/deploying AI or LLM‑enabled tooling within an operational finance setting.
- Experience with Bloomberg AIM / BQUANT, ICE Data Services, TriOptima, or MarkitWire.
- Exposure to securities lending, collateral management, or cash liquidity modelling.
- Familiarity with Posit Connect, Jupyter Notebooks, or similar analytical publishing platforms.
- Knowledge of microservices architecture, integration patterns, or iPaaS platforms such as MuleSoft.
Salary & Location
BCI’s Headquarters: Victoria, BC, Canada.
Annualised salary: CAD$135,000 – $160,000. Compensation is based on skill set, experience, and internal equity.
